I love using Alitu for my podcast Triple Your Clients. I have used Audacity in the past and can't knock the fact it's free and I got the job done with it. Where Alitu wins for me is in the ease and speed of producing the final audio. It's a breeze to work through the workflow knowing the software will take care of the normalisation and crossfades.
