Seems like the market is for older cars? Newer cars are more and more touch-screen enabled and even include car-play. Can't imagine there's a large audience for people wanting two touchscreens in there car that do the practically same thing.
I had a new car and it was great but now with an old car and no monthly payments I'm thinking you're right, this could be interesting, but I wonder how it would compare to the car speakers.
I've got a great Bluetooth speaker that fills the car with sound, but it rolls around a lot.
@bartonsmith and @sarfoodie love the looks of it. Truly frictionless audio experience! Yup, that's what I was waiting for. Any plans for international release? Can't wait to test it 😁🎶
If this was released before carplay and android auto I would have understood, but now it seems weird. I get that Spotify is being salty because they don't want to play commissions on subscriptions to Apple and Google, but would someone really buy a device that's kind of like-a-phone-but-not for a car? And it's obvious that this is only useful for cars without carplay/android auto and not-so-useful for any car with bluetooth audio streaming (almost all cars).
@data_greed Something to be said for an always on dedicated control. I find Android Auto etc. is 100% a GPS tool and there is no desire to go open spotify while driving or even use Hey Google to play a song. I think of this as a cheap (or free) replacement to a dashboard radio which is easier to fiddle with and change track, station, etc. for cars that don't have integrated touch and gps. My Wife's 2016 Mazda 3 has bluetooth but nothing nicer and this would be great for it.
@thatmattgardner with bluetooth you can just use ask siri to start any radio station/playlist on spotify you want and use next/previous tracks to change tracks. What else is needed?
@data_greed Android auto in my experience really sucks at multitasking, and you lose browsability with voice. It's great if you have a song or album in mind but sometimes you wanna wing through a list and see what catches your eye (while not in motion of course).
My car has Spotify built in and a big screen. I seldom use voice (one it sucks often, two I don't know what specifically I want to listen to til I see it!).
