Pointer is your AI copilot, working directly within Google Docs to offer smart, real-time edits. Say goodbye to manual copy-pasting from ChatGPT and fixing broken text formatting. Enjoy efficient, polished suggestions that you can easily approve.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I'm Rade, the developer behind Pointer AI, and I'm thrilled to unveil my latest creation with you all. This is my 5th product launch this year, and it's especially exciting because Pointer AI transforms how you interact with Google Docs!
Imagine having an intern who follows your exact instructions, clicking around and making suggestions right within Google Docs. That's what Pointer AI does! It's not just a chat interface—it actively types out suggestions for you to approve, complete with insightful comments that explain the reasoning behind each change.
Inspired by Claude's "Computer Use," Pointer AI is specifically built for Google Docs, eliminating the hassle of copying from ChatGPT and fixing formatting issues. You'll be amazed at how smoothly it integrates your feedback, making your documents shine 5x faster.
For me, watching Pointer AI in action is like witnessing magic—seeing your ideas come to life with remarkable precision and efficiency, all without leaving the familiar Google Docs environment.
I can't wait for you to try it out and hear your feedback. Head over to the Chrome Web Store to check Pointer AI out!
Thanks for being such a supportive community. I hope you find as much joy in using Pointer AI as I did in creating it! 😊
@whoisrade Congrats on the launch of pointer ai! It is exactly what Google Docs needed! The AI intern idea is brilliant. Any plans to bring this to other tools like sheets or slides?
@tonyabracadabra thanks Tony! 🙏 Yes, I’m already working on supporting the rest of the Google Workspace apps. Let me know if you have any other suggestions 🤗
Hey @whoisrade and @djordjevic_nikola, congrats on the launch! 🎉 I love the loading animation, it's giving 2030. Besides summarising or expand the text, is it possible to change the tone of voice or ask it for example to divide the text doc in H-sections like a blog post?
good luck with today's launch, you did a great job😼
@djordjevic_nikola@sofia__bettari Thanks Sofia, and yes it can! It can do most of the things an actual intern can, I'd invite you to watch the video and give it a go, we've included some free generations for trying it out. We've tested it on editing some long legal contracts and it was so fast at it that we just laughed.
Congrats on the launch, @djordjevic_nikola@whoisrade - We use docs as a primary source of content creation. Which LLM is powering the tool? Is it something you guys have developed or are you building off Anthropic / Openai / other?
@djordjevic_nikola@brandon_palin Hey Brandon, thanks! Would be cool to hear your feedback considering you're a Google Docs power user. We've built an agent on top of a fine tuned OpenAI's GPT-4o, but it was a close call between OpenAI and Anthropic's models.
@djordjevic_nikola@brandon_palin We haven't thought of that to be honest, but as the feedback was so overly positive and it surpassed our expectations, I've created a 50% discount for the first month for this launch (limited to 100 uses), just use this code on checkout: PHLAUNCH
Congrats on the launch, @whoisrade@djordjevic_nikola !
Love the idea - especially because it gives chagnes as suggestions rather than just overwrite the content.
Quick question - how does it handle different voice accents? Do you rely on the native voice recognition?
@djordjevic_nikola@ashitvora Yes, we felt it is crucial to not overwrite the content, but rather provide changes as suggestions with descriptive reasons for each suggestion, so a user can approve or reject each change.
Yes, it relies fully on the native voice recognition from within the document it is editing.
@sentry_co Hey André, I haven't built that in. Not sure if people would pay for an extension that asks for their own API key, but I may be mistaken... What would be the reasoning for this?
@nikdotca Hey Nik, thanks for reaching out! We're fully protecting our users' privacy, check out our terms of service and privacy policy - no users' data is being stored whatsoever, except for user's email address for logging in. The OpenAI is used through a company account with Tier 5 API access, where the agreement guarantees that they are also not storing any data.
@sentry_co I'm fortunate to have a group of incredible early adopters who are eager to invest in a product that genuinely benefits them. From my nearly 20 years of experience in software development, I've learned that monetary transactions are essential to validate the market demand for a product.
Just gotta say the scroll effect on the landing page initial viewport is brilliant! Congrats on the launch, and I look forward to giving the tool a try. Congrats on the launch! 🚀
@ohansemmanuel Thanks Ohans :D Webflow makes it easy to build these scroll animations. Wait until you see the animations when the AI agent is making changes to your Google Docs! :D
One of the cleanest AI integrations I've used this year! For someone who stashes almost anything in Google Docs, this is an absolute game changer. Love the product, keep going guys.
Congrats on the launch.
This is brilliant! And neat. I really liked how it adds suggestions and doesn't make the changes right away. It's almost like working with a thoughtful editor.
Thanks for working on this @whoisrade. I hope it gets all the attention it deserves.
@olya_zabalkanska It sure can Olya, there's a limited free trial account, so please try it out and let me know if you have any ideas how to make it even more effective :)
amazing! i used to use gptforworks mostly for google sheets but it had some bugs and UX that wasnt of my liking so i stopped using it, im happy this new approach is way cooler than them
Copy pasting between Google Docs and ChatGPT is really annoying and I hate to deal with the formatting issues, especially when copying longer texts that are mostly research which only need light editing.
@djordjevic_nikola@whoisrade Congrats on the launch! How does it handle more complex formatting like tables or embedded images? Curious about its capabilities beyond text :)
@kate_prasniak it handles data in tables, but not images I’m afraid. It’s a good idea though, we’ll be working on updating the product based on feedback like this, so you might expect it in one of the next updates! 😅
Very nice, congrats on the launch @whoisrade
Do you have any plans on implementing a Pay as you go model for billing?
I wonder if that could be something that would make users more willing to try it out
@sudoferraz Thanks Gabriel! We do have a pay as you go model for buying additional fast requests as add-ons after the generations quota have been exhausted. 😊
@renchu_song Thanks Richard! I'm working on supporting the full suite of Google WOrkspace products starting with Google Sheets and Google Slides, but currently only Google Docs is supported. We'll do a launch of these new features here on PH as soon as they're live!
Had me at changes as suggestions. It's insane this doesn't come baked in. Hope to see Pointer in more of the apps I write in, I need it in each and every one.
Pretty Nice, @whoisrade! I've been after similar functionality for one particular future aspect of our product, would love to chat and see if we can find a way to collaborate. Really well designed interaction!
@jalcantara Thanks Jorge! I put an emphasis on UX to be as seamless of an experience as possible, and to blend in the simplicity of the Google Docs native interface.
