Can an iOS-only app be successful?

by

Hi everyone!

I’m launching Movitalis soon—an activity tracker app focused on longevity, currently available only on iOS. The most common question I get is: “When will it be available on Android?” And, unfortunately, my honest answer is: “I don’t know”. Here's why:

Movitalis relies on Apple Health to keep all user data local and secure. Since most fitness devices and apps sync with Health, it creates a seamless experience. On Android, there’s no single standard—I’d have to integrate with multiple platforms like Garmin, Coros, Fitbit, etc., which is much more complex. As a solo developer, I simply don’t have the time or resources to take this on right now.

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Do you know of any iOS-only apps that found success—or major failures I could learn from?

Thanks!

@Fantastical famously doesn't have android (that I know of). Many apps get extremely far before they choose to do Android. It's just a different market. That said, I bet there are lots of things you can do on Android that you can't do on iOS - for example launchers like @aviate (one of the first startups I worked on).

There was a version of PvZ earlier that was iOS only, and it was very successful at that time

I don't think this is a barrier to promoting the product, you can even use this to enhance the accuracy of the promotion and make ios users feel like they are being cared for in a special way. After all, the number of ios users is huge, and it's great that your product has a portion of those users!
