'You can learn programming in 6 months by yourself'.
I've wasted years hesitating because I thought that I'm not smart enough to become a software developer, or at least can't learn it on my own while working full-time.
But to think of it, I had perfect English, and solid engineering background - which were good starting points. But I was hesitating because all of the comp science grads that I knew were bragging if they were elite intellectually. Turns out, if they were more friendly, I could have started earlier. But it's my fault, not their.
@dan_yes as someone who's dabbled in coding on and off but never committed to completely learning it (in part because I was intimidated by men who've been coding since they were practically in diapers), this makes me feel better. I'm gonna try no code tools first though and then go from there.
Don't be afraid of trying new things out and putting yourself out there. This is the most effective way for me to learn new things and to be productive.
there's nothing more greater and produces more results oriented outcomes than learning something while actually doing it
because
Ignorance is the absence of truth
Knowledge is the accumulation of truth
Understanding is the assimilation of truth
Wisdom is the application of truth
You'll need to make mistakes to learn
and your first 3 projects would be trash but you'll get better immensely as you keep on going 🔥
Don't get too comfortable with your job and workplace. Especially at the start of your career. If you don't see an opportunity to grow, find a better job and switch asap.
Don't stick with something that does not make you feel good. There are always a hundred different opportunities waiting. Plans will change, learn to enjoy the ride.
Well, I guess I would advise myself to not be afraid… not be afraid to ask questions (even though they might look silly at the first glance), make mistakes and change things if you are not satisfied with them.
Manage your own career, if you don't enjoy the work and management doesn't listen to your requests find something else. I ended up getting stuck for years doing work I didn't like because I didn't have the confidence to manage my own career
Try to be in the office. The more you can soak up information and learn from experienced coworkers and leaders the better. It's so much easier to do that if you're seeing them work and getting to ask questions vs. a handful of zoom calls.
I would tell myself, don't be afraid!
Travel, meet, take risks, speak.
You are young but the world is not going to end because of a mistake, fall and get up, not everything should be perfect, not everyone should like you, be what you want to be.
Time passes and there is only one life, one opportunity. Lives! 💪🏻
Focus on building the right processes – for everything in life. Such a simple thing as eating well can make a world of difference for your performance and life quality.
Be aware that your goals and dreams may change over time and that's ok. You don't need to hang onto something that no longer works for you just because it took an effort to get there.
Don't overcomplicate things.
Validate one hypothesis at a time.
