This is the best free self-hostable open source app that happened to productivity in years! I just love the concept and the execution. This is a hype that cannot die down as it is great and will only get better!
The first time I met AFFiNE, I was totally attracted by the idea behind, which is bringing doc and whiteboard together and making it a interactive whole. Without any hesitation, I joint the team! And as a primary contributor to the AFFiNE open-source project, I've witnessed a bunch of impressive milestones reached. The whiteboard, database, embed content. It will cost a whole day to list them all. There are even more things are coming. I'm not only taking about a very fascinating AI capable of assisting with writing, organizing, and even painting, but also other breathtaking features. Stay tuned 👀
I've used Affine and it is a combination of many workspace productivity tools
I was looking for software like Notion but that offered the ability to take handwritten notes, that's when I came across AFFiNE. Beyond the fact that AFFiNE meets my expectations, the software even offers frames for making presentations. The team is super responsive and very active on Discord, the software is regularly updated, and users can suggest ideas that get implemented. PS: Did I mention there's a free plan?
The conceptual framework and intrinsic design are exemplary; however, achieving a comprehensive solution is a distant goal. Many software products on the market, albeit with less elegance, can perform a multitude of complex functions, such as those offered by Obsidian and SiYuan. Enhancement avenues, in descending order of priority: 1. Multi-tab management akin to browser functionality 2. Incorporate pagination 3. Block-level referencing and backlink identification. 4. Outlink and backlink interface. 5. Elevate search capabilities with highlighting and search-and-replace features. 6. Refine auto-folder with other attribute filtering and content search. 7. Flashcard and review mechanisms like FSRS, potentially diverging from original intent. 8. Publishing features, albeit possibly straying from initial vision.
Even though I don't use Affine (yet) full, because there are some things I miss from Notion, I love it. I love the community, I love the idea of local-first AND being open-source. I am integrating Blocksuite (one of the building blocks of Affine) into my app, because everything is thinked all the way through. Bugfixes are fast, Discord community is alive, passionately discussing! I am looking forward to the moment when I can replace Notion with Affine.
Not as overpowered a combo as notion and yet more enjoyable than obsidian with crutches over markdowns I love it
