We are the Zencoder team - Ask us anything!

Hey, Product Hunt community!

We just launched here, and thanks to all of you, we won our #1 POTD. While that is great, we would like to hear your feedback, comments, and ideas.

@Zencoder is just getting started, and with your feedback, we can ensure that we build the best coding agent for developers and creators worldwide. So, feel free to share what you like, dislike, or have any feedback, and we'll do our best to be responsive.

How is is different than Cursor and Windsurf?

Vibor Cipan

@admiralrohan Great question—thanks for asking!

Comparing Zencoder to Cursor and Windsurf isn’t a straight apples-to-apples thing since they’re quite different, but here’s where we stand out.

We’re an IDE extension, not a full standalone IDE like Cursor, and we integrate seamlessly with VS Code, JetBrains IDEs (perfect for Java and C# devs), and Android Studio (supporting Kotlin and mobile development).

Our edge comes from Repo Grokking tech, giving us a deeper contextual understanding—unlike LLM-limited tools, we’ve handled 5M-line codebases with ease. You can also build your own custom coding agents, a unique perk.

Plus, our agentic pipeline runs and fixes code in the background before delivering it, ensuring top quality—though it takes 15-20% longer than direct LLM outputs, it cuts down on debugging time.

We don’t rely on just one model; we use a constellation of models, including our own fine-tuned approach, to tackle different tasks and boost code quality.

And for workflow, we offer built-in Jira integration plus 20+ other tools via our Chrome extension — perfect for teams who want to work smart without mastering MCP (though we support that too). Give it a try and let us know what you think!

@vibor_cipan Thanks for explaining.

To summarize, can I tell that Zencoder is better at handing larger codebases and hallucinates less?

Vibor Cipan

@admiralrohan Yes, in a nutshell, that would be it - but I'd add integrations since those are a significant productivity boost for users.

When will be zencoder avaliable on Neovim?

Vibor Cipan

@sayyidalijufri I don't have that info, and to my knowledge, this is not on our immediate roadmap. However, we are collecting these requests, so I'll make sure this one gets to our product team as well. We currently support VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, and Android Studio. We had some questions about Visual Studio and XCode, and together with your Neovim request, we are considering them all.

Thanks for making the time to comment and ask!

@vibor_cipan Oh I see waiting for neovim

Vibor Cipan

@sayyidalijufri Shared your feedback with the team today!

Btw, what do you like the most about the Neovim comapred to VS Code/JetBrains IDEs?

steve beyatte

How limited is Zencoder by just being a plugin and not an IDE? I know the Supermaven team said they ran into a brick wall building for JetBrains IDEs and could not take it farther because of memory constraints but I'm not sure how much of that was real. Does being just a plugin limit you?

Vibor Cipan

@steveb Nice question, Steve, I appreciate it.

It has some limitations, but we can currently work around them. I can't say we've seen significant memory issues until now.

But this was a deliberate product decision from our end: to try to meet developers where they are and work in the IDEs they are already using (and hopefully liking).

With integrations (native for Jira, 20+ via Chrome extension, support for the MCP), we think we can support dev and engineering workflows in this current setup. That said, we constantly seek feedback, talk, and evaluate decisions as we grow, including what other IDEs we might support in the future.

Thanks for stopping by and asking a cool question!

Great product!

While I am not a developer, I sometimes build small, low utility tools for simple work stuff. I liked using replit, and I will try this as well. Wishing you the best!

Vibor Cipan

@pranay12 , thanks for your comment. Looking forward to your feedback!
