Windsurf is an IDE that enables anyone to collaborate in lockstep with AI. Built by the Codeium team, the Windsurf Editor combines the best of copilot and agent systems to help you ship products faster, leveraging better context to provide better suggestions.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 From the proud makers of the Codeium IDE extensions, we are super excited to introduce the Windsurf Editor! Windsurf features Cascade, a new flagship feature that combines the best of both worlds: a copilot's collaborative intelligence with an agent's autonomous capabilities. For the past couple of years, we’ve been solely focused on building the Codeium extensions, which have been used by millions of developers worldwide. However, in our effort to continuously innovate and provide the best possible developer experience, there were certain features and workflows that necessitated ownership over the entire surface, which is why we set out to build an IDE in the first place. That being said, the extensions are definitely not going anywhere, and will continue to be supported 🤝 Whether you call it the first agentic IDE, the first purpose-built surface for developers to collaborate with AI, or think it’s just another lame fork of VS Code, we’d still love for you to try it out. Eventually, we’re confident you’ll think of it the same way we do - tomorrow's editor, today. We're offering two weeks of the full premium experience for free to everyone who tries the Windsurf Editor during launch week. We can't wait to hear what magical moments you discover while using it! 🏄Watch our launch video here: https://x.com/codeiumdev/status/... 👉Learn more on our website: https://codeium.com/windsurf

@anshulr great job, loving the experience so far! Is there a way to change the venv or conda env that the cascade uses?
Gabriele Venturi
@anshulr basically no matter if I change the env of the IDE with the .conda inside the project, for some reason the cascade will stick to Python 3.10.11

Downloaded it yesterday and only used it for one day. But I can already see this is going to be my default editor forever. The experience is much different from other AI code editors and fits perfectly into my workflow. Congrats on the launch to the team. 🥳🎉

I was referred to this by a coworker today and he thought that I might be able to start writing code with the help of this! How much understanding of code do you think is needed to be able to use this?
Ravi Lamontagne
@ahunts94 Zero. Knowing code helps but not needed to use the Cascade feature. I used it to build a portfolio with a blog and it did a great job.

So gar so good! Much better than the VSCode extension and much much faster at performing tasks with Cascade in general, impressive!

So far, this is better than Cursor. It actually can see the whole codebase and remember it, meaning the context is always there. I had to always remind Cursor where to look, time after time. It's seamless with Windsurf. Mostly, it just works! UI is better, too.

It just made my life easier and my job less secure (you already know why...) but after pairing this up with Ollama it really becomes is a great assistant in writing re-usable code, comments, and documentation.

Windsurf is awesome. I've been using Codeium for a long time and Cascade is even better (though it's hard to imagine how something can be better than Codeium…)! I love the chat mode, so there's a 'human in the loop', and the autonomous writing mode is really cool. I highly recommend this!

Honest opinion. For more complex projects, this is way better than Cursor. A simple reason, in Cursor if we ask for a change that include a file we don’t provide in the context, the model try to update the file without even looking at the file it should have looked in order to make an accurate update. Instead, on Windsurf, if the agent understand that it needs to read other files not given by the user in order to make an accurate edit, it will read the file itself without us providing the file, and then proceed with the update. Windsurf, and Cascade from Winsurf is a true agent. In Cursor we have a chatbot and then a model that make edits based on the instructions of the chatbot.

Its great product from codium. I am able to 10x my developer experience using WindSurf. Thanks to the team. I made a beautiful UI & backend using this editor without switching out of editor.

Wow, was able to get Cascade to build a 0-1 project for me, but I was even more impressed by how it's fared on my real production codebase. Congrats, Windsurf is a big next step for AI-powered dev!

Been a Codeium Pro subscriber for a while now and installed Windsurf the day I received an email in my inbox. Loving the experience so far.

This is the code editor I will stick with. Really redefines the flow of my work, and it makes coding really fun when you don't have to spend time for chores (just ask AI to do them) and do the real and meaningful stuff yourself.

This was my easiest "Upvote" in a long time. Windsurf easily beats Cursor. The Codebase understanding is very very good, everything feels very polished, the workflows are smooth. Best Ai Coder to date!

I tried windsurf yesterday and I was shocked on how efficient it was. I am currently doing a CRM in MextJS and for test purposes, I gave the AI 8 main colours and asked it to create 8 different themes (one for each colour). It did it instantly, created the right gradient of light and dark colours for each and then asked me if want to add a theme picker in the settings page for the user to select a theme. And yes, it all worked instantly. It modified all the files directly, so I was just sitting there and looking at a section being added to my settings page. I am really impressed. It's a game changer.

I don’t usually leave comments on Product Hunt, but I just have to say this: You’ve built something truly incredible! Over the past few weeks, I’ve tested everything—Cursor, Bolt, Aider, Replit, Cline, Continue—and while I had some success with a few of them, nothing quite clicked. Then, by chance, I came across a random YouTuber talking about Windsurf, and I thought, “Why not give it a try?” It completely blew me away. I have zero coding experience—I’ve never written a single line. I know a little about how code works because I sell web design services, but my knowledge is limited to a bit of CSS, HTML, and PHP. In just a few hours, I went from knowing absolutely nothing to creating a fully functional web app that integrates with OpenRouter, ElevenLabs, and lets me build an unlimited number of characters, each with their own personalities, voices, backgrounds, and more. All I had to do was connect the API keys and… magic! I realize that what I made is probably very basic for any developer out there, but being able to create something like this just by chatting with Windsurf feels incredible. This is hands down the best tool I’ve tried. Please keep improving this amazing creation, and thank you so much for offering a plan that’s affordable, even for people like me without a big budget. Never change! @anshulr THANK YOU.

It does a great job to understand the context but it is missing some key features that cursor has: (1) it doesn't take image in chat so I cannot tell it to reproduce the UI in image. (2) i cannot take url link as documentation that are the 2 key features i think you should support.

Great product! Already used it to build a pretty sophisticated application that would have taken me far longer to build by myself.

I used cascade with barely any coding experience, and was blown away the endless possibilities this tool has to offer. Looking forward to more updates from the team!

Pretty impressed, I was able to create a PR for an Open source repo Im not familiar with at all. cheers team

I never thought building an app could be so easy. I built my very own(first time) in less than 5 minutes! This is incredible
