What is the most unusual use of artificial intelligence you have seen?

Besides generating text, images and videos for you in a few seconds/minutes, AI can certainly do other things.

What unusual uses of AI have you seen?

Perhaps mutual previews can encourage makers on this platform to be more creative. 🙂

For me, it was the fact that MIT, Carnegie Mellon, and other institutions have shown it’s possible to "see through walls" using Wi-Fi, detecting breathing patterns or even posture using AI + Wi-Fi.

AI boyfriends or AI girlfriends.

It is a thin line people.

And disclaimer => Im not judging it.

I just think, there is always at least one human out there who will like you. You dont need a PC to feel companionship.

Nika

@cryptosymposium It has to be a really sad life when one befriends AI more than people. 🥲

Tera Bitcoins

@cryptosymposium Yes, that may happen. I read a story about a guy that married an avatar!!... Sad but true!

Somehow related to this, there's a lot of work being done on robotics to create different types of AI pets.

@busmark_w_nika i know right. i dont want to put labels on it. but it is a sad fact. Not judging anyone who does, just saying it is sad to see that in this world people feel closer to an ai than to a human.
Tasos V
@terabitcoins wow! that is another level. i mean the marriage part the ai pets, has some fun part into it 😅

@cryptosymposium This raises serious concerns of power when considering how the person who built the model (or even the AI itself) could encourage individuals to think/act a certain way with the sway of emotional attachments...

Seeing through walls is really incredible, great find!

Some examples how AI is used to solve difficult engineering and science problems:

@konrad_sx Cancer research would be one of the TOP, if things go well.

@busmark_w_nika Yes, definitely, and curing currently incurable diseases in general.

Hi Nika, thanks for the interesting topic.

Maybe this is not so unusual, but many people are now using AI as a search engine!

  • Another use case is to generate code (even still being limited and with several flaws - and I know that this can be also included in text generator usage);

  • On health, there are projects to analyze patients' records, such as genetic information, to give accurate data and help doctors on doing diagnosis faster and provide personalized treatment plans;

  • Image recognition can be helpful on medical fields, security and autonomous vehicles;

  • AI can detect unusual patterns or outliers in data that may indicate fraudulent activity. This is crucial in financial services and cyber security;

  • AI analyzes customer data to create personalized marketing strategies, improving customer engagement and sales;

  • AI smart home devices, learn and adapt to user preferences, automating tasks like temperature control, lighting, and security;

  • Ai enhances Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) experiences by making them more interactive and immersive, useful in gaming, education, and training simulations;

  • AI algorithms analyze market data to make trading decisions, often faster and more accurately than human traders.

Ending with an AI generated answer:

Based on the provided search results, one of the most unusual use cases of AI is the use of tiny, AI-powered robots for pollination. These robots are designed to mimic the behavior of insects, such as bees, by producing vibrations that shake off pollen from flowers to fertilize plants. This innovative application aims to address the declining bee population and ensure efficient crop pollination.

This use case was mentioned in the article titled "Unusual and interesting AI use cases from dog facial recognition to legal research" published on 2023-09-14 [REF]legal.thomsonreuters.com[/REF].

@terabitcoins The one you outlined, I really like – it could possibly solve the problems with bees. Another concern I have is the fact that space with nature is shrinking. So we can have the technology for the crop pollination, but soon we will be lacking land for flowers because there is less nature. 🙈

Tera Bitcoins

@busmark_w_nika Bees have a key role and are a very important part of our ecosystem, unfortunately deforestation is a big concern for our sustainability.

Here's another AI usage case:

Analyze environmental data to monitor pollution levels, track wildlife, and predict natural disasters, aiding in conservation efforts and public safety.

Nika

@terabitcoins If AI can be used this way, I would say it can create a better place for life.

Tera Bitcoins

@busmark_w_nika Yes, AI can be used for good that way (and in many others), now let's see if there's any "interest" to implement it... Or if more powerful lobbies will ignore or simply delay it as far as they can ;)

Siddharth Pereira
There’s a guy in India using to AI to analyze voice patterns to understand how his infant baby communicates with his dog. Completely private usage product that google noticed and is eyeing now.
Nika

@siddharthpereira Is any article about him on the internet?

Siddharth Pereira

@busmark_w_nika Didn't find everything. But this is the starting point.

Big conversation on reddit.

Nika

@siddharthpereira This is crazy. 5 different patterns of crying translated into the normal language. Pretty neat. Imagine using it towards animals as well.

Scott Spanier

Genome sequencing and drug predicting are huge. Same goes for identifying objects in space (18 year old used AI to identify 1.5 million previously unknown objects). Anywhere you have large quantities of data really...

Nika

@scott_spanier If you have any interesting article / source, I would like to dive in :)

AI has been used in many ways to benefit military operations against russia during the war in Ukraine. AI-powered systems help analyze satellite imaginary, drones activity, etc. It’s probably also used for some predictive analysis but I have never researched the topic. I often admire how the same technology is used both for things I mentioned and helping kids with homework.
Nika

@angelinashv I also heard something in the sense that they use AI for drones and even have an upper hand in this field in the military (even the US started being interested in their solutions).

sietse schelpe

to short i have seen , llm beeing used for all wrong things . so could you make the question more clear?

Nika

@sietse_schelpe Let me rephrase – have you seen AI used in a way that improved the lives of others, and was it an unusual use case that you haven't seen before/isn't that common?
