Influencer marketing. Worked for you or was a waste of money?

Hi everyone, I have used influencers for large companies before and I must admit it takes the word out there really fast and creates a good awareness among the target audience. 📢However, one of the biggest problem is your brand image gets closely associated with the influencer (basically an external risk is created). This particularly becomes problematic if the influencer is really popular ⭐. So, a BIG decision you have to make is choosing between the popularity of a influencer (more reach) and the right influencer (less reach but reaches TG mostly). I would like to hear your experience of influencer marketing. What are your thoughts? Is it a good strategy to grow?🚀 Or is it a waste of money? 😷At what point should influencer come in? ⌛For instance, we just launched ReplyMind this week. Would it be wise to go into influencer marketing now or later? Our launch: https://www.producthunt.com/post... I would particularly like to hear from small bootstrapping teams and the solopreneurs here. Thank you. 🙏

Depends on what stage of the product you're at currently - If you're just starting out and don't have a lot of budget, you might want to DM people manually and get them to try the product (since you have more time than money) - If you have a PMF and 100+ users you can try out those viral reel videos where you show how your product works with a robotic voice (which is annoying BTW) but I've seen a lot of products go viral with that approach! Hope this helps!

For a product like ReplyMind, as a marketer I feel influencer route is not the way to go for now Try the usual digital channels first. Forum marketing and community building is what will make your product more talked about. Just as an aside, I had written this in my newsletter. Maybe it could help you. Well, we are trying to get influencers to talk about us. This will be a first. Would be interesting to see if this indeed is a problem.
Maybe micro-influencers,niche specific are a good thing for your startup. I believe marketing should scale with the startup in terms of-- small startup = small influencers and the bigger you become the more you should up your influencer game

@olenabomko I agree! Any advice on finding such influencers?
Influencer marketing has been a bit of a mixed bag for me. It really depends on the strategy and the platform you choose, as well as the alignment between the influencer and your brand. There have been instances where it's worked wonders, generating significant engagement and conversions. However, there have also been times when it felt like a waste of money, especially when the audience wasn't genuinely interested in my product or service. Moreover, let me tell you a genuine advice, if you have some audience across Youtube and Instagram, you can do your marketing by your own. Let me tell you how, Goto AiToolsKit.ai (Productive AI, Seo & Social media Tools platform) there you will find 15+ Youtube Tools such as Youtube AI Title/Description/Tags Generator, Youtube Trends Research (Country & Regionwise), Youtube Hashtags/Tags extractor of your competitors. Now, you just need a product video (Either short or long) and rest everything will be provided by AiToolsKit.ai. You can post the same video on Instagram also, just first do some Hashtags research first by going to AiToolsKit.ai and get(copy) Instagram Hashtags from that detailed Hashtags report and use those in the description of your Insta post. Moreover you can do the same on your blog website by leveraging the power of Free Keyword Research Tool & Complete SEO Kit (free alternative of Ahrefs, Semrush) ProductHunt link: https://bit.ly/AiToolsKit

Well i have always chosen affiliate marketing over influencer marketing. From my experience there are many influencer marketing platforms where you can connect with influencers to promote your product but they all ask for a steep upfront price with no guaranteed outcome. With affiliate marketing you only pay a commission when a sale is made. Again the downside with affiliate marketing is you have no idea if the affiliate will make the sincere and consistent effort to promote your product as you would like him or her to do.

@omar_faruk29 well don't know if you are saying we should be spoon feeding affiliate marketers. Let's just say 30% recurring commissions for life for every subscription of an easy to sell and use tool with 24 X 7 suppport. How much more carrot does an affiliate marketer need to sell to an ecommerce customer base they are already serving. They just have to upsell no extra effort. Hell I can't make it any easier take it or leave it. 😕

Launching soon!
I'd love to work with smaller scale micro-influencers that was niched down but I think it also depends on budget. If you've for someone in mind who is your perfect avatar - maybe they're able to reach a huge portion of your personal TAM.

Hi Omar, I appreciate you sharing your insights and experiences with influencer marketing. It's indeed a strategy that has both its merits and potential risks. Influencer marketing can be highly effective in quickly getting the word out and creating awareness, especially when working with influencers who have a substantial following. However, as you mentioned, there's a trade-off between reach and alignment with your target audience. Choosing the right influencer is crucial. It's not just about their popularity but also their relevance to your brand and whether their followers align with your target demographic. Sometimes, micro-influencers with a smaller but highly engaged audience can be more effective in reaching your ideal customers. Regarding the timing of influencer marketing for your recent launch of ReplyMind, it depends on various factors like your budget, marketing strategy, and product readiness. It might be wise to start small and test the waters with a few influencers who closely align with your target audience. Monitor the results, gather feedback, and adjust your strategy accordingly. For small bootstrapping teams and solopreneurs, influencer marketing can be a cost-effective way to gain visibility. However, it's essential to set clear objectives, measure ROI, and be cautious about overextending your budget. Overall, influencer marketing can be a valuable tool in your marketing arsenal if executed thoughtfully and aligned with your brand's goals and values. Best of luck with your product launch on Product Hunt! [MR Shad]

We have a new product and influencers are a big part of our initial marketing plan - so it's good to hear that you find them effective! We will be choosing our influencers carefully - ones that are in-step with our values as well as have followers who could benefit from our product. Also, as a new company we have a smaller budget so will need to use influencers in our price range, which will likely mean a smaller (but hopefully effective!) reach.
