Do you use Product Hunt more/less during summer, weekends or holidays?

I'm doing a little research on the traffic on this platform. Many people ask when it's a good idea to launch a product on Product Hunt.

I'd like to know your perspective on how you spend your time here during specific seasons (weekends, holidays, summer). 👀

If you have any ideas on how to increase the traffic here, regardless of the date, ideas are more than welcome.

For example, I take into account several facts.

  • In general, the number of upvotes is lower on weekends. (Fri – Sat – Sun)

  • During weekends/holidays, people are more outside, with their families, and less involved in work projects.

  • This is also related to the presence on LinkedIn, where people are mostly looking for support. (LinkedIn is a career site, so work takes a back seat for some people during the holidays.)

On the other hand:

  • Thanks to the new Product Hunt feature (showing online users in discussions), I noticed quite a high number of people reading posts today.

  • Many users maintain their PH streak, so they need to visit the platform every day.

I would also like to know whether you are more engaged in discussions or discussions + upvotes in launches.

Confidence Onumabor
@busmark_w_nika most times, I have to stick around to actively participate in discussions.. but usually, in the mornings, I'm here to check out product launches
Nika

@confidence_onumabor Good point, I also participate in discussions predominantly and also observe cool products in each new PH days.

@busmark_w_nika Hi Nika! Can you share where to look for this feature "....new Product Hunt feature (showing online users in discussions)? I think it can be helpful to learn more about PH.

As for the activity, I will share my personal experience:

  1. in order to keep the PH streak, make me look at the PH even during the weekends, out of curiosity to see new mentions and upvotes. Until now I don't understand what's behind a long streak, some better positioning on PH or just a personal habit to hang out somewhere.

  2. I will definitely not stick during the vacation time, trying to avoid the mobile in general (you should try it, it's hard at the beginning not to look through the news, messages, etc. but really makes sense if you plan to re-charge your batteries.

  3. weekdays are for a business/product purpose communication, weekends for any topics, less promotional posts, relaxing and friendly atmosphere.

Nika

@theonebroker Hey Olga, regarding online users, you can see them under the topic of the particular post (I am attaching the discussion where I attached those screenshots).

  1. For me, it is a habit – I am a very "habit-oriented" person tbh :D

Regarding 3 – love this approach – not every topic has to be serious. Especially during holidays or weekends, I try to post about something calmer. :)

Olga Aleksiutovich

@busmark_w_nika  A good eye for new features! Thanks for sharing your insights!

@busmark_w_nika  @theonebroker The changelog may helps as well, see the third image on April 11

Great post!

I’ve also been wondering the same thing, as I’m planning to launch this Sunday, especially with Easter holidays happening in many countries. Curious to see how many people will actually be hanging out on PH during the holiday season!

For me, whether the product gets featured or not matters more than the number of votes. Weekdays, especially Wednesdays, tend to be more competitive, while weekends are usually quieter. So I guess it really depends on what you're aiming for.

Nika

@derek_liu_dev You can count on me on Sunday! I would say that Tuesday, Wednesday – if you are lucky and can get it to the top – you will have massive traffic.

Derek Liu

@busmark_w_nika That's very kind of you. Thank you!

Yeah, from my previous experience, launching on those competitive weekdays often requires strong social media connections to really stand out. As a solo maker with almost zero social media reach, I feel weekends are a better fit for me :)

Nika

@derek_liu_dev during the weekend is hard to reach LinkedIn Friends. More likely to reach people on X tho.

Tera Bitcoins

I just use PH to read your posts 😉

Nika

@terabitcoins â¤ď¸ awwww. Thank you, Tera. ❤️

Hazel Prime

It is public holiday here in my country and I did not forget to log in to PH.

Nika

@hazel_prime Are u collecting PH streak days? :)

Vlad Zivkovic

I check PH every morning to keep the streak, but evening is my usual time when I go through the products and do some upvotes, and I do that all year round throughout the holidays, weekends...

Nika

@vladimir_zivkovic Interesting! I have the opposite approach – to be here from the early morning to evaluate products as soon as possible (because I cannot see the rating, and I am less "biased"). Don't you think that in the evening, already positioned products make you upvote those best (the top of the ranking)?

Yan Bingbing

Browsing PH is part of my job, to better understand technological developments and for the products we are preparing to launch🚀.

In the beginning, I did obsess over the number of days in a streak, but I didn't remember it every vacation. So when I realized it was gone one time, my mind was at peace 😯. Such exciting mental swings are really appealing, similar to sunk cost maybe.

Nika

@onbing Hahaha, feel you. To be here every day is a kind of pressure, so when you lose the streak days, it feels like freedom! :D But we are still in the game! :)

Nathan Parker

I come on every day for the streak but generally look around a bit more and stay on for longer on weekends!

Nika

@nathanielparker What is the main reason to be more active here on weekends? Do you have more time?

Because I have usually seen the opposite, people wanted to take time for their families and enjoy free time. They were back again on Mondays.

Evak Chan

I’m usually active on Product Hunt during weekdays, leaving comments on products and discussions, since it tends to be more lively and engaged then. I also drop by on weekends, but I don’t stay for long.

Nika

@evakk I registered you here for a longer time. Nice to know that you are here for long term and not only for a few weeks before the launch :)

Evak Chan

@busmark_w_nika For another reason, I think I’m gradually getting used to engage in here. : )

Nika

@evakk What reason do you have in mind? :)

Evak Chan

@busmark_w_nika It’s hard to find another platform where product and marketing talk feels this focused and genuine. I love how active and engaged everyone is here!

Akshay

I don't use it on holidays or weekends.

Juan Secchi

@akshay_111 It's Sunday! xD

Nika

@akshay_111  @juan Such irony. But I appreciate that Akshay broke his habit :DD

Zagita

Interesting insights!

We don’t have summer here in Indonesia (tropical life 🌴), but we’ve got tons of holidays since the country recognizes now 6 official religions (Islam, Catholic, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism). Every major religious holiday—plus cultural ones like Chinese Lunar New Year—means red dates on the calendar. Schools also break in June-July and December, so basically, Indonesians are always celebrating something. And yep, everyone loves going out during holidays… except me. Crowds? No thanks—I’d rather avoid getting lost in a human tsunami.

Since I work freelance/online with flexible hours, I sneak out on non-holidays and bunker down when everyone’s out partying. As for Product Hunt, I’m here almost daily but most active in the evenings (quiet time = prime browsing hours).

Side note: The new ‘online users’ feature is cool—definitely makes discussions feel livelier. Maybe more timed engagement prompts (e.g., ‘Evening PH chats’) could keep traffic steady despite holiday dips?

Nika

@rani_zagita How many days in general do you have holidays in one year? :D

Regarding Evening PH chats – what exactly do you mean? Like evening chatting option with private/group DMs?

Zagita

@busmark_w_nika This year we’ve got 24 official national holidays—mix of religious, cultural, and national dates—plus 3-5 govt-added long weekends. Over the last decade, Indonesia averages 20-25 holidays yearly. Pretty awesome, right? 😄

And yes! I was thinking about what if PH has chats/DM feature, it's definitely would be wildly active during Indonesian evenings (prime browsing hours here!). Timezone-friendly engagement could be a game-changer.

Nika

@rani_zagita Woah, we have 15 national holidays annually in Slovakia. We should be definitelly inspired by your country :D PH chats are quite discussed lately btw :)

MD Amirul Islam

I think Thursday Friday and Saturday
However, a much smaller number of product features are added on Saturdays.

Nika

@1mirul "Thursday, Friday and Saturday" – do you use it the most on these days? I would say that the highest peak is Mon – Thurs.

MD Amirul Islam

@busmark_w_wilcox w_nika These are official working days.

Stefani Sparysheva

I use PH only on weekdays, and I guess less in summer

Nika

@stefaniya_sparysheva I reckon because you take PH more like a work/project-oriented platform?

Alex

I think summer sounds good to release. Good vibes, sunshine, and positively compared to winter.

Nika

@new_user___142202423266b2aaa452077 Have you had that experience? Because summers are days when people are mostly on vacation.

Alex

@busmark_w_nika

I have not. A wild guess on my end!

Gianmaria Caltagirone
I usually use PH on workdays, but I can’t stop my positive streak 🙃
Nika

@gianmaria_caltagirone You are 90 days! :) That's good. Do you have any plan to maintain any record for holding it? :)
