The Linux Kernel we all know and use, turned 30 years in 2021 and also recently crossed 1 Million commits. This site is a tribute to all the hard work that went into building a piece of software that powers a good chunk of the world today.

Hey everyone, The Linux Kernel we all know and use, turned 30 years in 2021 and also recently crossed 1 Million commits 🎉 I've been on the lookout for interesting datasets to build search interfaces with, for showcasing Typesense and with the 1M commit milestone, I figured it would be fun to index all the million Linux commit messages and build an instant-search interface on top of it, especially to find interesting tidbits from old (or not) commit messages. If you find any interesting search terms, let me know and I'll add it to the site for others to see.

@jasonbosco This is rad. I especially like looking for unexpected terms like "wtf". Such a fast interface and search 👏🏼

@onassar Thank you Oliver! That's what I searched for first as well, as I was building it :)

Of course, Linux requires some skills, and Windows is much easier in this regard. Here is an article about checking running processes in Linux https://www.hostforweb.com/artic... It will help you understand all the nuances of Linux and the commands you can use to track a specific, see how much power it uses, etc. Some tools help you manage all the processes and change their priority. The same article has commands to help you manage all the running, like changing their precedence for correct operation.

I have started to learn linux, but I can't figure out the commands for the running processes. Can you advise how to figure it all out. To keep track of running processors, manage them, give priority to each necessary process, etc.
Dario Banesr
Here's how the kill process command works. It is the same as kill all, it performs exactly the same function as the normal kill command. But the kill command does not kill the child processes. In general, I can't understand how it works.

Thank you @adityavsc!

Congratulations to every Linux user! This is too huge a number to call this software a beginner. This is the only one I use, and I can say that I have not found a better one yet. If you look at vps linux, then there is definitely no question why this software has been around for so many years and not the other more popular ones. I am more than sure that you will find this part as interesting as anything else in this software. I know Linux is going to grow even more in the future, so I'm really looking forward to the new features.

yes i agree with @neeltones, In the server popular it is probably by far the most popular operating system. It’s free. It’s relatively secure. It performs excellently. It’s great with odd hardware. It’s great with virtualization - you can run *many* instances simultaneously on one system. It doesn’t suffer from horrible update mechanisms from Microsoft. It’s not Microsoft. Given it’s a Unix, its remote administration abilities are superior. yes, i agree Linux Servers(https://monovm.com/linux-vps/) are far better than Windows Server.
