Top of the Coins 2.0 — Take the one top spot but pay more each time

The front page of the crypto world. There's just one text advertising spot, and its front and center. Take the spot and get your message in front of a crypto/tech audience. There's one catch - the amount to take the top spot increases each time, so be quick!

Serious question - once a new top price is reached, does it remain fixed? If so, would that put off future purchases once it gets to a decent amount (e.g. $100). How about having some mechanism whereby it decreases by $1 every day/week/month/whatever, to encourage more purchases. If it drops from $500 to $300 then you might get a buyer than might never have been interested.

@neilcocker good question. Ultimately this has the chicken and egg marketplace problem. I.e. the bigger the audience, the more value there is to advertisers. However, at the beginning there's less value on both sides (though I'm running some advertising to build up eyeballs). Therefore the more expensive the message cost, the more worth it it'll be for the advertiser because it has gained enough traction to get to the point. Though obviously this doesn't remain true forever, as the breakeven for value/purchase price may fluctuate over time, which is where your solution could come in handy actually! For now I'm going to just focus on building up some audience and see where it goes. A few extra features I'm yet to build into V2 is the twitter auto-posting (I'm doing it manually atm :-)), and better emphasizing Twitter/email subscription. Cheers! :-)

@joetannorella Yes, agreed about market value. I suppose my point really is that once you reach a theoretical "highest affordable price", you've literally removed any ability to generate any further revenue.

Hey PH, During the crypto rally leading up to Jan 2018 I built https://www.topofthecoins.com. My intention was to learn about crypto and get an idea of how this shiny new (to me) tech worked. I fired up a new Laravel PHP project and also invested £400 in #XRP and #XLM (now worth £370 :-(). At the time the site brought in $31.50 (0.02793) of Ethereum (around 10 sales) after a couple of days of very tame marketing, which is now worth £66.93. I pretty much broke even on the original 2017/18 rally, but I more importantly learned some valuable new skills. With the recent crypto hype-train building back up, I thought it’d be good to do a relaunch whilst improving the site. Plus, I've been wanting to learn a few new techie things for a while, so even if it earns nothing then I've still benefitted. I've benefited from some learning some awesome new tech to build this: 🧩 TailwindCSS - took some getting used to, but I absolutely love it 🧩 Coinbase Commerce 🧩 Laravel Forge - full continuous deployments So on the weekend, I rebuilt the site with some new features & a shiny new design. The new TopOfTheCoins.com lets you post a message using 6 different cryptocurrencies thanks to Coinbase Commerce: Bitcoin, Ethereum, BitcoinCash, Litecoin, Dai and USDC. Previously it would only accept Ethereum, and the code was all custom as Coinbase Commerce didn't exist back then. There's now also a top message spot for each of those currencies, instead of just one top spot (that's still there though!) I’d love to know what you all think - https://www.topofthecoins.com - and see some of your messages posted on the site! Any thoughts/criticism/indignant remarks? Any clever marketing ideas or growth tactics more than welcomed! Cheers! Joe

Nice launch @joetannorella – feels like this could be a great marketing avenue for crypto/blockchain startups to reach their target audience in a fun and dynamic way, very cool!

How do I "buy the dip" on this....? ;-)
Joe Tannorella
@neilcocker I suppose you could post your Coinbase affiliate link as a top message?! ;-)
