@aburtondesign is the app still active? The web interface is pretty simplistic, I couldn't find a way to invite friends or see who's around, browse profiles or gyms or so.
Andrew Burton
@no_fear_inc Hi Mario, yes the web interface is simplistic. Most of the functionality is in the native apps :)

Too bad there is already an app and system with basically the same name... @tonal A little googling would have told you that.

As someone who has spent 5-6 days a week in the gym the past 15 years, I try to stay away from digital devices during that time. Most are far too distracted with their phones and it keeps them from putting in time on their workout. They spend more time looking at their screen than actively working out. I prefer to throw music on my iPod, start workout mode on my Apple Watch, and leave the phone in the locker.
Andrew Burton
@benbrausen Hi Ben, we definitely agree that they can sometimes be unwelcome distractions. That's why we spent time building out our Apple watch app. It allows the user to quickly glance at what they should be doing and skip if necessary whilst also seeing their vitals. We also built out audio walkthrough features so you can plan your workout ahead of time and simply listen through later in the gym via your headphones. The exercises you should be performing, the rep count and for how long/what load... all whilst your phone is in your pocket and your music is playing. so no more distractions :)

I love being able to pre-plan workouts on the web version when I get a spare five minutes at work!

Pros:

I really like the repeat workout feature which allows me to copy my friends when I'm unsure on what to do in the gym!

Cons:

I'd like to see more detailed performance stats on the web version, showing my progress over time and any achievements I rack up.

Hi there, I’m a product designer who had never built my own product, so with my two friends we decided to give it a go. As you can all probably guess it turned out to be a lot harder than expected! We built Tona because although staying motivated is fitness is hard work, friendly competition and encouragement can boost your workout rate by up to 90%. We’d already seen how apps like Strava could do this for running and cycling workouts, but we couldn’t find something that scratched the itch for competing in gym workouts, so we decided to have a go ourselves... What makes Tona different from other fitness apps; 🏋️‍♂️ Track workouts and compete in any gym in the world 💪 One of the largest exercise library available with 2,000 unique exercises and growing.. ✏️ Users can plan and record workouts for their clients, themselves or their friends, all for free. 🏆 1 million plus unique leaderboards allowing anyone to get to the top of the board. 🔥Track key metrics over time such as calories, load, heartrate, 1 Rep Max's and much more 🌎 Global community of fellow fitness fanatics encourages friendly competition and social proof to keep you exercising. --- As we mentioned this is our first solo product so we would love to hear your feedback and advice. 💪 Andrew and the Tona team --- https://www.tona.fit/

@aburtondesign I'm excited to try it out. Coming from years of use of Garmin watches with Strava, I'm looking for a good app to plan and execute strength training a few times a week to supplement running and cycling. Any plans to integrate with Garmin watch-fed data on the roadmap? One sensible feature that Garmin has consistently ignored over the years: Display current HR in real time on the app. This would be great for doing intervals (running or cycling) on a treadmill or spin-bike so that you don't have to look at the watch. Just a though, not sure if it's possible...
Andrew Burton
@john_mctavish Hi John, yes we are currently working on integrating Garmin (and others such as Suunto and Polar) now 💪 Although It is tricky to get the heart rate data from these devices to display on the phone live (and not after syncing post workout) we are certainly giving it a go. What we can definitely display live is heart rate data from LBE and ANT+ heart rate monitors, such as round the chest devices so expect that in the next few weeks.

@aburtondesign Looks awesome. Can't wait to try it out. Trying to sign up over the website right now using the "Continue with Facebook" Button on the Sign Up page and when click on it nothing happens.
Andrew Burton
@muloka Ah sorry to hear that! We are fixing it as we speak, thank you very much for the spot. In the meantime, email sign up seems to be working. As does sign up in the app. Apologies again

Very stylish dark interface. The best for hard workout!
Andrew Burton
@jenniferrrrrooo We agree Jennifer 💪
Sally Hadidi
PROS: Slick design, interactive community and i like the leaderboard feature for my favourite workouts...it makes me work that little harder at the gym. CONS: I’d love for them to add a mapping feature for running to see my routes :)
Andrew Burton
@sally_hadidi1 Great suggestion Sally, would love to add maps in a version version of the app.

Great network to motivate you and your friends to workout more or more often. Easy to use, includes a huge list of exercises and workouts, and I can follow my stats over time.

Pros:

Record any workout, Instagram like feed, motivates me, looks great, can work with wearables

Cons:

Just keep building!

Simon Bainbridge

Photo filters for your workout

Pros:

Great layout an colour scheme! Excellent sharing features. Fun!

Cons:

More funky filters pls

Rachel Parkes

I Would recommend to anyone who is interested in fitness and wants a platform to track and improve their workouts.

Pros:

Easy to use, its great to see other people’s workouts and get inspiration from other people. Hyping workouts.

Cons:

Save the workouts without data/ WiFi.

Andrew Burton
Thanks for this Rachel, good suggestion on saving workouts without internet connection. At the moment the app can hold your workout until you reach connection, but I like the idea of being able to store multiple workouts before you do. We will put it on the to do list :)
Alice De Wend Fenton

Great app ☺️

Pros:

Great community of fitness fans who send ‘hype’, comprehensive list of exercises, leaderboards and stats make you push yourself even harder!

Cons:

Sync-up with Classpass please!

Laura Hepworth

Love it is now both Apple and Android friendly for my work phone.

Pros:

A great way to find new workouts to stay motivated and track progress

Cons:

Mapping the runs would be great.

Natalie Hughes

It’s great being able to see what my friends are up to and being able to repeat their workouts. Product looks great too, very slick!

Pros:

There’s nothing like it on the market for logging what I do in the gym and sharing with friends

Cons:

Would be awesome if it integrated with Class Pass

Jessica Versaw

I've really enjoyed using Tona for my strength workouts. I've tried a handful of strength apps that have never quite been what I needed, Tona has been the first app I've really felt suited my needs and I've been happy to use.

Pros:

-Extensive library of moves. -Easy to plan and repeat strength workouts -Checklist aspect keeps me motivated mid-workout.

Cons:

-A couple minor bugs

Sam Brennan
Really love this app. For me it’s so easy to record and track my performance and as the app grows amongst my friends It motivates me by sparking that competitive streak😜
Justin Martin
Guys, this is a very cool application. I use it very often. I really like competing with other users in my results. This adds motivation :) I've been looking for a similar application for a long time, but I just came across some kind of shit. For the first time I heard about this application on the website https://cyclehealthinfo.com/nord... . One of the users advised me to use this application in order to compete with me. Since then, I use it all the time. I advise everyone to try it, you will definitely like it!
