TikTok has always been a media and entertainment company but it's shifting further toward a social network with updates like this. I've also noticed more prompts for me to import my contacts, follow friends, and other user<>user flywheels.

@rrhoover makes sense. Tik-tok has always been on a 'follow' social graph and since it was a broadcast network, all it cared about was what a user likes to watch. if they want to get into different social, they'll have to build a strong friend finder. Hence, importing contacts.

I guess it's TikTok's turn to start copying features. It'll be interesting to see how this will play out and what BeReal's response will be. While BeReal it's getting a lot of buzz right now, I'm not sure it has hit the mainstream yet to be strong enough to survive this. Also interesting how they're testing it as both a standalone app and an in-app feature. Thoughts?
