There have been rumors about Slingshot for the past few weeks, referencing similarities to one of my favorite new apps, Taptalk (cc @ogtfaber @abramdawson). Looking forward to trying this out.

@scotthurff their domain isn't resolving yet: http://sling.me/ I think @daveambrose may have jumped the gun :)

Based on the description in this TC piece (http://techcrunch.com/2014/06/09...), it reminds me more of Povio than of Snapchat, from a UX perspective.

It's interesting they're doing this after shutting down Poke (which is a very similar concept and relatively similar implementation) just three months ago. I wonder what they felt went wrong with Poke, and what they got right with Slingshot.

It's also only available in select markets - not the US, though, for now

@gkoberger Gotta fail to succeed -- I like the tenacity.

US App Store only (or at least not the Dutch one), hate that sh*t

@gkoberger - biggest difference is the level of Facebook branding. Slingshot is totally separate. Facebook Poke was part of FB.

@bramk any luck switching stores to play with the app? more details: http://qr.ae/vOvqP

@gkoberger maybe the main thing that was wrong with Poke was that it was branded as Facebook? ;)

"Selfie" camera mode. XD

BTW I just reloaded and it's now only available in Malaysia. Curious:

Man. I wonder how many more times they'll try and go after snapchat? The funniest piece of copy: A button that reads "REACT".
Bram Kanstein (@bramk)
thanks @daveambrose, but I see the same thing as @scotthurff

and... it's gone.

I am curious about 2 things. If this one doesn't work will they go after SC with an internally designed application again? And, I wonder if they'll juice the app with their owned and operated distribution? To me that's the signal this is for real. Otherwise, it's just a low priced call option on catching lighting in a bottle. One thing to note: I give them credit for going after it. Having been involved in big companies in the past, I am sure this wasn't the easiest thing to accomplish politically. BTW isn't Product Hunt the shit?
