I only know of an Android app (Filmscout...something) that tried to let you follow actors. But that was about it. Do you see yourself in competition with Letterboxd? You did mention it yourself. Do you have a monetization strategy?

@dananddan Thanks! Yes, I know Filmscout and the idea behind it and skriber is similar. But Filmscout only supports actors and directors, I think. We support many more filmmakers, such as sound designers, editors, writers, stunt coordinators and many more! Also, FIlmscout only focuses on only following those few. There is no option to create watchlists, organize subscriptions onto different lists, etc.
As for monetizing: as of right now, I don't have a plan to monetize. I mostly focus of gaining traction and first beta users. In case more people see the benefit of this service as I do, a freemium (paid by ads) and pro account might possible.

Hello everyone!
I'd like to give some background on skriber and my intentions behind it.
I am an avid movie and tv show binge watcher. And even though there are quite a few services online to help me discover new content (Letterboxd, Trakt.tv etc.), I find myself browsing IMDb again and again, because I do have a lot of actors, directors, screenwriters etc. I just like to follow and want to be informed about. And often I forget about actors, am reminded because of any random incident, look up their profile page and am overwhelmed how many releases I already missed. No service offers the functionality to follow actors or filmmakers and be notified, when new releases are releases. So I built one myself: skriber.
Of course, this is just the core idea and motivation behind skriber. At this time of writing, you can create subscription lists for your favorite actors and filmmakers, create infinite watchlists of movies and tv shows that interest you, log your history by marking movies and tv episodes as watched and more.
I do have many more ideas I am about to implement. But right now I am launching skriber as beta for the public. I want the notification service to be of help for others and hear about feature requests and improvement ideas to make skriber even better.

this is great. missing some kind of import or some extension for a easy transfer from imdb rating. manually adding 4500 movies would hurt to me ;p . trying to do a custom search to copy the movie name, but getting 404 error page.
