Shhshot is a macOS screenshot tool that automatically hides sensitive info like API keys or card numbers. Screens stay local, ready to edit or copy instantly. Built for clean, secure captures — no cloud, no clutter.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I’m Igor, and I built Shhshot to make taking and sharing screenshots less stressful.
Whether you’re a developer, designer, or anyone sharing your screen — it’s too easy to leak sensitive data like API keys, emails, or credit card numbers. So I made a macOS tool that hides them automatically the moment you snap.
It’s super lightweight, works locally (no cloud), and every screenshot goes straight into a share-ready clipboard. We also added simple editing (draw, crop, blur) and one-click sharing — all in an early alpha.
Heads up: Sensitive data detection is evolving — it currently catches most API keys and card numbers, but it’s not perfect yet. We’re improving it with every update and planning to add detection for emails, phone numbers, addresses, and support for custom ML models.
Would love your thoughts, feedback, and questions — thanks for checking it out! 🙏
@joshnies Thanks a lot! 🙌 Right now, I’m focused on improving the detection algorithms for sensitive information and working on integrating ML models to make that even smarter. The next big goal is going cross-platform — and video processing might become part of the roadmap at that stage.
Congrats on the launch, Ihor! Cool idea — this solves a real anxiety point when sharing screenshots in fast-moving environments. Curious: do you plan to support custom pattern detection or allow users to define what should be hidden?
@dobk Thanks so much! Really appreciate it 🙌 Custom pattern detection is definitely on my roadmap — I’m planning to roll it out soon alongside improvements to the overall detection algorithm. The goal is to give users more control while keeping things effortless.

@supa_l Absolutely love that! Local-first is the way to go — especially when privacy matters most.

Very nice product! One suggestion I would give is don't use blur as it's not destructive.

@hacksore Thanks for the feedback!
You're absolutely right — blur can be reversible in some cases. Right now, I'm using solid black fill to mask sensitive content for stronger privacy.
