Looks great but what can you say about its offline mode capabilities? Meaning, in our industry [Construction], people often sadly are in places WITHOUT Internet so does the tech have the smarts necessary to store the messages [preferably encrypted] on the device UNTIL a time that they are reconnected to a WiFi/Cell service and can 'pick up where they left off'? Without that ability - SendBird does nothing for me...;( Great to see a bunch of SDKs already available...
YK
@exlemor Hi Emmanuel, actually you can! Please take a look at https://docs.sendbird.com/ios#ca... We are also planning on implementing it within our sample code as well. Great to see a lot of interest in SDKs!
Emmanuel Lemor
@yaekyum Thanks for that - but hummm I'm NOT sure it's entirely fitting for the use case we have.. caching is great but it's a bit different than full offline mode isn't it? I'm thinking about features like being able to reply to someone's message and it sitting there in queue until an internet / wifi connection kicks in? My assumption [and we know how dangerous THOSE are ;) ] is that this caching mode/feature won't work in that respect? [I'm NOT an expert programmer so please forgive my ignorance]
YK
@exlemor When do you plan on implementing? Currently caching is done externally but in Q3 we will move internalize it within the SDK and message offline queuing will be available!
Emmanuel Lemor
@yaekyum well right now we have a 'working solution' { definition of working may vary from person to person ;) lol } but we are always looking for a smarter, better more complete, stable solution...
YK
@exlemor I see, please sign up and stay tuned! We send out bi-monthly feature update letters so it will be in your inbox once message offline queuing is available.

Thanks Justin for hunting us! Hey guys, it's good to be back. We've took time to carefully build our latest chat SDK and API. We're ready to share the update with PH! Do let us know if you have any questions.
John S. Kim
@tin_hang_liu Thank you Tin!
sri
@doshkim Congratulations on a good launch. Do you have 1-1 video chat service?
John S. Kim
@sridhar_kondoji Not yet! Video and audio coming later this year. How soon is your timeline?
John S. Kim
@sridhar_kondoji That's great to hear! Do let us know if you have any questions.

Looks like a fantastic SDK, a real stunner. Looking forward to getting it integrated into a project or two this year. Kudos to the whole team @astyfx @ahn_jungho @yaekyum @jeongjin9 @markatsendbird @doshkim @harry_kim @jameskim on what is clearly a REALLY useful toolkit. Think it'd be more beneficial if you asked for more info on sign-up & divulged more info about your pricing structure upfront if I am being picky. This rather than pushing people through the contact form. But other than that, can't fault your product/service on first glance.
David West
Just a side thought - what sort of encryption is there? Saw you integrated FILE encryption recently, but presuming THAT is just for premium/custom plans but on private messages & text... is encryption offered?
YK
@david_west Thank you so much David! Hopefully, we can support one of your future projects. All suggestions are deeply appreciated, and I agree with you on how we should have a more extensive sign-up questionnaire to direct the site visitor to a much more relevant document and/or representative. About pricing, standard self-serve pricing is always on our minds and we are thinking hard to find the right way and the right time to make it happen so that more developers can benefit from SendBird's chat SDK. Thanks again for your thorough review!

@yaekyum The broadcast feature is a really important one I think - I'd love to see it in the free plan - rather than just the test message. If you're concerned about giving too much away, could maybe restrict the amount of broadcasts app owners can make per week/month. I'm not sure it's worth upgrading JUST for that, but it's definitely a very very useful feature in those larger channels.
YK
@david_west Indeed! It is a feature very much loved and often used by services with the need to send out Admin and Marketing messages. We will keep in mind going forward about making premium features available to the free tier!
Michael Paris
Congrats guys! This looks really cool. You guys have amazing design by the way. I'm curious where you see this fitting in the greater messaging ecosystem? It looks like you guys offer a different set of services (such as the bot interface which is very cool) but how do you view your differentiation against a service like layer?
John S. Kim
@michael_paris Hey Michael, thank you for the kind words and the question (I'll definitely let our team know!) I believe we are part of the greater movement within the industry — as the millennials are quickly becoming the drivers of our economy, we're seeing greater adoption of in-app messaging across different verticals and companies of all shapes and sizes. Not only is this happening among the tech-companies and startups, but we're beginning to see the traditional industry and public companies also exploring into the in-app messaging space. Hopefully, we at SendBird can contribute to businesses by helping them harness the power of in-app messaging while the heavy lifting is done by companies like us. We think the players (including layer) are doing a great job of helping the market move forward, stop the developers from reinventing the wheel, and raise the bar in terms of what the developer experience and the end-user experience should be. We're continuing to roll out new high-value features (e.g. moderation tools, auto-translation, etc.) to add more value to the customers, and we think of others less as competitors, but more as comrades in the industry building and uplifting the market together. Ultimately, as we were taught in YC repeatedly, I believe competitors don't kill startups, but lack of customers do. So we'll keep talking to and learning from our customers and build elegant solutions to help address their needs. Due to limited resources, we probably can't deliver on all the feature requests that are coming through our doors, but we'll keep focusing on the customer value and hopefully it will win the hearts of the people we are working with.
Michael Paris
@doshkim Thanks for the thoughtful note! I love the way that you think about the industry and competition. We are actually going though YC right now and have heard a similar mantra. Best of luck in the future! I'll be following your progress and will absolutely try out your service myself.
John S. Kim
@michael_paris oh wow! congrats and best of luck at the demoday!
James Futhey
Good product, nice documentation. There needs to be up-front / transparent pricing. Not willing to set up a series of sales calls and trials for a solution like this.
Nicholas Wood
Build out our messaging feature with v2 last year after looking at many options - great product and service!
John S. Kim
@thewhitewood Thank you for the kind words Nick! Btw v3 is far better, so do give it a try when you get a chance! :)
YK
@thewhitewood Thank you! Looking forward to supporting you guys further!
Mark
@thewhitewood Thanks! We also keep our eye on Availo too! let us know how we can support you with our v3 SendBird!
Rotem Yakir
@doshkim looks great. You should take a look at Guggy. Can really spice things up for your users. You can talk to me at rotem@guggy.com if you want to learn more.
Patrick Lu
Good product that saved us time so we didn't have to scale out a messaging service. One concern I had while using this was customer support though. Sometimes tickets would stay unanswered for weeks, so many times you were really on your own if you had problems / questions. Have you guys remedied this? Also, do you guys have plans on dropping an "embeddable" chat option -- similar to Stripe's simple checkout? That would save tons of time for anyone just trying to plug chat in quickly.
YK
@patricklu10 Hi Patrik! Glad we were able to be of help. Apologize on the delayed CS, to address certain customers urgent needs to escalate individual questions or inquiries, we created a paid support plan that guarantees you return time (depending on your needs). Also, in general, SendBird 3.0 is very easy to use so we have had fewer inquiries. In addition, we have been much faster on average with all inquiries as we have been sizing up our team to handle requests. Regarding 'embeddable' chat option, thanks for asking! We are soon rolling out an embeddable JavaScript Widget. We will circulate an update e-mail once it is available!
John S. Kim
@patricklu10 Hey Patrick, it's good to see you here! Sorry for the delayed response. I do admit there's a good room for improvements here, so we'll be opening job positions for developer evangelists and sales engineers to address questions faster. We have a tight constraint on the resources at the moment due to growing number of inbound inquiries, but I can assure you that we are not slacking off! =)
Ketan Anjaria
This looks cool but without upfront pricing, it's a no go. I understand you are trying to base the price on customer features but that could be easily built into the pricing page. I can't tell if you cost $10 or $1000.
Rodrigo Reis
We've been using SendBird as the foundation for our messaging app for almost a year now. We're pretty happy with them.. the SDKs v3.0 are a great evolution of the product.
YK
@rodrigoreis22 Thank you Rodrigo! Hope the best for Arena.im as well!
John S. Kim
@rodrigoreis22 Thank you Rodrigo!
Mark Osborne
Do you have any "drop-in" UI for the JS SDK? I couldn't find it anywhere
YK
@mposborne Hi Mark, thanks for asking! We are internally rolling out JS SDK widget by the end of March. We will circulate a note to customers once publicly available.
YK
@futhey glad to hear that!
Omar AlEisa
We have been using SendBird for several months now, and it's the best messaging SDK we came across. Our product relies heavily on the messaging aspect, so we chose our chat SDK really carefully. Before settling on SendBird, we tried about 10 different chat SDKs. SendBird was the clear choice for us due to how customizable and flexible it is. This flexibility gave us the freedom to easily build many features using their SDK.
YK
@i3omar Thank you so much for your support, Omar! It is extremely rewarding to have customers back us publicly!
Virect
We've been using SendBird for a while now for our Workroom and there's been no hiccup so far. The API was easy to integrate and is quite stable. Recommended.
YK
@virect Hi Virect, that is awesome, thank you for your support!
John S. Kim
@virect Thank you for the kind words!

Dainis Kanopa
Hi guys, you already been hunted at PH a year ago.
John S. Kim
@dainiskanopa Yeah this is a whole new major update with vastly improved + new features and performance. We had to literally rebuilt our server from ground up based on customer requests.
YK
@dainiskanopa Thanks for recognizing us! Yes, last year was our 2.0 SDK. This year we are introducing the 3.0!
John S. Kim
@dainiskanopa Thanks! Really appreciate it!
YK
@dainiskanopa @doshkim Thanks a ton!
Aditya Lesmana
How much is the cost for premium plan?
YK
@adityalesmana Hi Aditya! We don't have a premium plan, we have premium features you can pick and choose according to your specific use.
John S. Kim
@adityalesmana If you are referring to the paid plan in general, please contact our team here! We'd be more than happy to help: https://help.sendbird.com/hc/en-...
Bruce Bolton
Looks very polished. Who do you consider your competitors?
YK
@brucebolton Hi Bruce - Layer and Quickblox are most often considered competitors and/or alternatives.
Mark
@brucebolton You can also refer to the article at Quora [Quickblox vs SendBird vs Layer.com] Do I need to have my own backend? that SendBird is the only players offering scalable chat room and set of premium chat features! : https://www.quora.com/Quickblox-...
