Some great products launched in January that were not featured

Yesterday, I announced Product Hunt Gems, a Reddit community and newsletter for great products that were not featured on Product Hunt.

Our team has looked for such "hidden gems" since the beginning of the year, and below you will find some of the best ones that were launched in January. You'll find several more in our newsletter. I will post gems from February here tomorrow.

I think that you will see from these examples that there are some great products launched here that are not featured, and that it is worthwhile to look through the list of non-featured launches from time to time.

If you do so and find a gem yourself, r/ProductHuntGems is the place for it!

Xyris – Professional vector graphics animation (web app)

Full-featured SVG vector graphics editor and animation tool based on the SMIL standard (with SMIL, no JavaScript or CSS is needed - the complete animation is described within an <svg> element). It’s impossible to list all important features in a few lines, so I just mention motion path, morph and property animation, a filter editor, and editing history as examples.

My take: I've quickly tested it and was impressed by the comprehensive functionality, clear and beautiful interface, performance and overall quality of Xyris. There are still some issues, but it is also still in beta, so I have high expectations for the release.

Current Beta completely free

Extension Auditor – Checks browser extensions for potential security and privacy threats

Evaluates and displays permissions of installed browser extensions to detect potential security and privacy threats. A dashboard provides an overview for all extensions, details pages list the permissions of an extension systematically. For Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave.

My take: Browser extensions with extensive permissions can pose serious security and privacy threats, so a tool like this can be highly recommended. Extension Auditor seemed to work very well in my test, the interface is sophisticated and easy to use. Has been improved since PH launch.

ReplyPilot – AI reply suggestions for social media

Suggests replies on LinkedIn, X, Instagram, YouTube. Media can be analyzed. Can be personalized by describing your persona and style, and each reply can be customized.

My take: While bots and AI-generated responses are a big problem on social media, I think using a “copilot” like this can be justifiable when used with care. ReplyPilot worked quite well in my quick test. Personalization is clearly a big advantage of this tool, but does not yet work as well as expected. Improvements are planned.

Free options

Hearfluence - AI Reddit monitoring for lead generation

Scans and monitors Reddit communities for posts that are relevant to you according to descriptions given in natural language. Offers email and Slack notifications. Up to 1 scan / hour.

My take: Hearfluence is one of the first AI lead generation tools for Reddit. It returned useful results in my tests, but clearly did not work optimal. See my launch comment for details.

From $49 / month (free trial)

UpSnatch – Search engine for expired domains

Advanced search engine for domains that expire soon or have just expired. Using AI, it tries to find domains relevant to the terms entered. Results are shown in a table with important properties, and many sort options and filters are available. Further, it offers lists with special types of expiring domains.

My take: UpSnatch is a sophisticated tool for finding domain gems. In my quick test, it worked quite well in general. However, it often included a high number of domains not relevant to the search terms. See my launch comment for details. Improvements are planned.

$25 / month

UnlistedJobs – Job search engine with listings sourced from company sites directly

Scans company websites for job listings globally. Currently has 265,000+ jobs from 200,000+ companies. Unlike what the name suggests, jobs listed on big job boards are included and cannot currently be filtered out. Offers keyword search and several filters. Can send notifications for new matches.

My take: Could be very useful for finding job gems. Worked quite well in my quick test, but there are some shortcomings, e.g. the location filter is based on tags and there’s no perimeter search. Improvements are planned.

From $15 / month

Uppi – Open source uptime monitoring tool

Open-source uptime monitoring for websites and simple APIs (supports HTTP/HTTPS and TCP, but no headers, no POST requests, no certificate check). Notifications can be sent via email, Slack, Pushover, Bird, or Android / iOS apps that are also available. Status pages can also be set up.

My take: Uppi could be a good solution for small websites and simple APIs. It worked generally well in my test but several improvements would be possible.

Curious why you're starting a Reddit. We're trying to build the best forums for product discussions. What would you want to see to run this community from product hunt forums?

@rajiv_ayyangar Thanks for your question! I already discussed with our team that we should talk with the PH team about how to make our project a good "complement" to PH.

I would be happy if it could all be done on the Product Hunt forums. There would need to be a forum for non-featured launches. Will have to think how to prevent self-promotion etc. (on our Reddit only approved users can post, and we look careful at their PH profile before approving them).

@rajiv_ayyangar To provide some more context why we started this "externally"

  • Before gathering the "gems" over a longer time I didn't know if there were enough for the whole thing to make sense, so I wanted to check that out before discussing anything with the PH team

  • We also started this before the forums were improved here

Xyris really caught my attention! Thanks for sharing :)

@sunebthorsen Yes, it's a real gem.

Maybe you could use Hearfluence also? Do you use any lead generation tool for Reddit?
