Roast YOUR OWN product ideas...and get a bonus elevator pitch!
Hey Hunters!
One question we tend to not ask ourselves is "Should I build this product?". It's silly, and I constantly skip this step. When I like something, I sometimes just jump in. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it HURTS.
One thing I try to do is ask these 10 questions before building a new product for myself or for someone else.
It's the Why, Who, What, and How we should build this product:
✅ 1. Why does this problem need solving?
✅ 2. Who are our target audience?
✅ 3. How large is our target audience/market and how much of it can we capture?
✅ 4. What unique value does our solution offer?
✅ 5. What data or research supports our idea?
✅ 6. How do we plan to monetize or derive value from our solution?
✅ 7. How will we validate that our solution addresses the problem effectively?
If the above are answered well (be honest with yourself), then proceed with:
✅ 8. When do we anticipate rolling out the MVP for testing or public use?
✅ 9. Are there potential challenges or risks we should be aware of?
✅10. Are there existing systems or technologies we can partner with or license to expedite
our solution's development?
It's important to try to answer them in order since the next question builds upon the previous one.
To make it easier (and keep ourselves honest 😉), I made a free knowledge base with our soon-to-be-product-hunt-launced (Whoa!) service called ChatterKB.
You can try it out here: https://app.chatterkb.com/knowledge_bases/QzXtdv/join
I also did one for ChatterKB. Here's a board with the results: https://app.chatterkb.com/boards/lyvUG9
Hope this helps and I'd love to hear if anyone goes through a similar process or does something totally different.
Also, I wonder which question do you think is the hardest to answer, and why?
✌️
P.S. If you answer all of the questions on the site, you'll unlock two bonus elevator pitches—a crisp 30-second pitch and a detailed 1-paragraph version to help you quickly express your idea. (<-- I struggle with that).
