Hey Product Hunters! Last year I made a little music app called remixmonsta serving my (own?) weirdo music taste, and based on the learnings and feedbacks I received throughout the year 🙏 I made some changes. If you are in the mood read the rest, if not, I recommend to put some electronica on and maybe a daft punk helmet. Anyways, I hope you’ll like it! 🙌 🖤 Exclusive Product Hunt offer I have an exclusive offer for product hunters today to win an limited remixmonsta pin! Sign up for the newsletter today or tomorrow to make sure you are eligible to win! 🤔 Problem Before jumping into it, let me have one guess. If you open Spotify (interchangeable to any streaming music service) now, it’s really likely you have one specific “collector” playlist where everything goes you find in the music-verse, is that correct? More interestingly, how many times you updated this list, meaning deleting some songs? Not really? Well, are you jumping through tracks because this might be the 1.000.001 times you listen to Despacito, and you get bored of it by now? Yeah we all bless dear Fonsi and Biebs. 👏 😎 Well, these are the kind of problem I was struggling with too, so I started to crawl Soundcloud for the music I like with a group of friends from my hometown, and we created some nice hand-picked collections on a daily basis, so we could all share on WhatsApp or Messenger. I listened it at work, and also during cutting the red paprika 🌶, but it was really time-consuming to search every day, so after a while when I had less time I fell into the same comfortable “only-listener” couch, only playing the same playlists. So I started thinking how I could automate the process & save time, plus it would be nice to find some artists I’ve never heard of, so I could be the cool explorer who found the next Skrillex before becoming the new mainstream. 🖤 So what do I want? I wanted to have kind of a music machine (jukebox?) 🎧 searching for the best electronic music for my very opinionated list of genres, and show me the most interesting ones ordered based on various parameters. 🛠 Solution I knew a little bit of programming so I started to create a simple client side-only application for the beta, which consumed the Soundcloud API and made possible to change genres, and search for tracks (even a creation of a playlist, which later I dropped based on the tests). This went quite OK, but then I realized after answering the incoming mails from artists about how they can get on the list, is the fact that I have absolutely no control besides the API responses what is currently visible. 😕 I was lack of knowledge. This was not really good I felt, since one of the reasons why I started this little app is to also discover new artists, so I didn’t want to let them down when they would trust me with their music, so I started to learn Ruby on Rails at SuperHi to have a fully fledged service, where I could take a use of a database to store music uploads (still in the cooking) from the talented producers and also have more control of the response that comes from the API. So yeah It’s quite a hack of a learning journey and constantly new features are popping in my head, but since I’m a solo maker with this idea I can only implement them slowly, BUT this shouldn’t hold you back not to tell me if the app s*cks completely. 🤓 Is this entertaining at all? Will I find any good music here? Let me state this: this is not Spotify, Google Music or Big records Corp, this is a small app where if you are not scared away from trying out some new exciting booty-shaking moombahton or mind melting dubstep bass, then your feet will start moving for sure. Certainly not every track is top headliner remix, but the worst that can happen you end up in some Turkish 🇹🇷 remake loop, endlessly trying to mumble the lyrics. Let me know what you think and thanks for reading this far you are 🔥🔥🔥 💖 Special thanks to literally everyone who was participating in the remixmonsta beta!!! 🙏 Yes you are right, you were all tested, watched and some of you even interviewed.
