Raycast Notes makes it frictionless to organize your thoughts from anywhere on your Mac. Track todos, save meeting notes, and collect ideas. Designed to be lightweight with Markdown support and just a keystroke away.
Hi all! Nichlas from Raycast here 👋
We’re really excited to finally present our latest feature, Raycast Notes!
We believe it’s a significant improvement over our previous Floating Notes, from which we received so much valuable feedback from all of you 🙏
This project has been super fun and challenging, as we worked hard to keep Raycast Notes as minimal as possible, while adding enough power under the hood to go that extra mile.
We’re all very excited to see how you will take advantage of the new functionality, and we hope you’ll join us in our community to share feedback so we can continue to improve moving forward.
A special thanks to @giedre_blekaite and @michael_nielsen (one of our newest team members), who took on this challenge and delivered beyond my wildest expectations 👏 It was truly inspiring to watch!
Key Changes
🍡 Multiple Notes: The most requested feature, I believe this trickled in 100ms after we published the first version of Floating Notes 😆
🍬 Markdown Syntax: You can now style your content with nice markdown syntax. Headings, links, tasks, code blocks, and much more (full list here).
🔍 Search Notes Command: We added a new command inside of Raycast that lets you quickly search, preview, and open notes.
🍫 Menu Bar Access: Sometimes, it’s OK to click around with the mouse, so we added a menu bar icon, that you can enable in Raycast Settings for quick access, and while you’re there, set up a hotkey for it as well ⌨️

@giedre_blekaite@michael_nielsen@nichlaswa it's amazing to see how you've evolved Floating Notes into something even more powerful while keeping that signature simplicity. Congrats on the launch!
@giedre_blekaite@michael_nielsen@nichlaswa HUGE congrats to the team!! I've already setup hotkeys and Favs to specific notes, so when my weekly design critique starts I can immediately have my notes up! Can't wait to have access to this on more platforms/devices, and I'll fully switch from Google Keep!
Whenever Raycast for Windows happens, GOT to have Notes with that. 🫶
The Raycast team killed it on this.
Floating notes were already incredibly helpful for jotting something down, but the care for detail the team have put into making them even more powerful is fantastic.
I keep finding myself trying different note apps just to end up going back to Apple Notes...this might actually make me change though. @nichlaswa do the notes sync to your mobile device or somewhere we can access when not at our Mac?
Congrats on the launch!
This project has been in the making for a while, and a few priorities got in the way of shipping it earlier. But today is the day we finally put it out. Obviously we wanted to share it with the Product Hunt community, which helped us since 2020 to launch new features and side projects. Check out the promo code to get 30% off for Raycast Pro as a thank you 🙌
I've found the *perfect* note app for me. This is it. Simple, fast, powerful, but not bloated. Can't go back.
The craft this team puts in everything they touch truly is incredible
I have been testing it for a few months before the release, and I can say I absolutely cannot live without it, It has completely replaced my use of Apple Notes 😁
Looking forward to the iOS app, especially if notes can be shared with it.
I’m so happy to see it live.
Kudos to the team!
Congrats on the launch, Raycast Notes team! Raycast Notes sounds perfect for keeping thoughts organized without all the extra steps—really love the lightweight approach. How does it handle large note collections or organizing them over time? Would be cool to see how it keeps things clutter-free as notes pile up!
@davidcardenas thanks for the support! Raycast Notes are best for lightweight, ephemeral notes that you don't necessarily need to store for a very long time. If you reach the point where you have a lot of complex documents that you need to organize, it might be best to move them to proper knowledge-based products like Notion. Later we might add some convenience for exporting to other products.
Congrats! A well-designed, user-friendly gadget!
Where is the data from Notes stored? It would be great if it could be saved to existing apps like Bear or Notion that I already use.
@bonvisions Notes are stored encrypted, locally with an option to sync them across Macs with an active Pro subscription. You can export notes to Markdown to import in other note-taking apps. For now we don't have plans to sync with other note-taking apps.
For a moment I was shocked when the “toggle floating notes window” option was suddenly gone this morning. I thought you had killed my favorite feature and deleted my data in the process 😱
You can’t imagine the relief when I saw that it was just replaced by Raycast Notes and my old notes were still there.
Thanks for making one of Raycast’s best features even better!
@maresch Ah yeah, I can feel that shock :D But we took the opportunity to simplify the two commands and combine it into just one. Something we wanted to do for a while. Let us know how you like the new experience!
@thomaspaulmann really enjoying it! Just one piece of feedback so far: I’m not a big markdown user and it took me a while to discover the “Show format buttons” option. I’m glad this option exists but it’s a lot of mouse movement for simple formatting which gets tedious. I guess I could just get used to markdown but having formatting options appear when text is selected would be more intuitive for me.
@linda_yanlin Thank you 🫶 Unfortunately, releasing on Google Play is not something we're aiming for at the moment. The first in line would be Windows and iOS before eventually reaching more platforms
@wpgaurav Tot is great! We don't have immediate plans to increase the number of notes but with a Pro subscription you get unlimited notes plus a whole lot more: AI, unlimited clipboard history, custom window management, etc.
