Would you rather launch on a day packed with products or with as little competition as possible?
While preparing for our launch and browsing the upcoming launches, I asked myself what the best move would be for choosing a day:
1. Pick a day when you have less competition (e.g., fewer products and/or fewer similar products).
2. Pick the day where the most products are launched. More products = more teams pushing = more people likely to discover your product.
What would you choose? Having the fourth position with 500 upvotes one day, or being first with 400 upvotes another day?

Since each product is unique and operates in a different category, I believe all the top 5 are winners in their own right.
There's no meaningful distinction between being ranked 1st or 5th unless the products serve the same purpose and launch on the same day.
Well, actually it depends on your goals and the readiness of your product. I was searching on the real statistics from the successful launches and managed to find the valuable information through the google search, most true story insights from TOP 5 of the day I have recently faced from ChatWise experience. Generally speaking, launching on the weekends -less competition and it could be the right choice if you are looking for a brand exposure, SEO positioning, getting the achievements as a sign of a trust. The disadvantage of launching on weekends - less possibility to win product of the week and even less possibility to have monthly achievement. On the other hand, if your goal is to attract real users, leads, CR to sell outs/subscriptions or event traffic, you should launch on the high traffic days, like Wednesday or Thursday.

Depends on what you want more:
A badge?
Or more traffic on your website with a possible purchase – you probably know where I want to go with this answer :)
@busmark_w_nika Can I get both? :-)
The badge could bring more sales as a trust factor on your landing page, so I believe the question is valid even if I mostly share your point of view.

@0xgrrr Yes, you can, but it will be very difficult :D BUT – you can prepare and try it! :)
Hey Samuel,
From my experience, I'd recommend aiming to be #1 even if it potentially means fewer total clicks. The social proof of having a "#1 Product of the Day" badge carries significantly more weight in marketing materials, investor conversations, and user trust than being "#4 or #5" with slightly more upvotes.
I'm curious though - your question suggests you have some confidence in your ability to reach those top positions. Would you mind sharing a bit more about your launch strategy? What approaches have you found most effective in your preparation?
Best of luck with your upcoming launch!
I think it really depends on what your main goal is.
That said, I’d recommend launching on a Tuesday to Thursday, when traffic tends to be higher.
In the long run, people often check product rankings weekly or monthly, so launching midweek could help increase overall visibility.
@0xgrrr I find myself in a very similar situation, so I’m really looking forward to reading what others with more experience on PH have to say. Always helpful to learn from the community—thank you in advance for sharing your insights!
I always believe that we shouldn’t focus solely on upvotes and rankings, the key is to evaluate which day drives more traffic ( though weekdays typically generate more traffic than weekends).

Great discussion! I'd add another perspective. It depends on your objective, it depends on your audience too.
If you're a developer tool, you may want to launch on a weekend. Take @Zeabur (#1 Product of the Day) or @Trench (#3 Product of the Day) for example. Both launched on a Sunday. Why? Because many developers are developers in and out of work, with hobby projects to experiment with a new language, a new framework, or a new tool.
If you're targeting developers, the lines between work days and weekends are blurring together. Think beyond.
for me, being first with 400 upvotes sounds like the way to go. If I can grab attention early, I think I can ride that momentum even if the competition is tough.
It depends on you goals - if you want just a fancy badge - it's easier to get it through weeekends, want users and traffic - you need to fight for it 🐱👤
