More and more people are using AI chatbots instead of googling. Have you already seen chatGpt.com showing up as a traffic source in your Google Analytics? Chatbots are becoming a new acquisition channel, and you should overlook it. Otterly.ai is a handy tool to help you work with this traffic source. Otterly.ai will help you track and monitor brand mentions in AI-powered searches. This is the first step to help you optimize your website for AI searches.

Interesting product, @fabian_maume @robert_rotznig. Quick question - are we heading into a world where CBO (Chatbot Optimization) becomes as imp as SEO?
Fabian Maume
@ashitvora I think it will be. You already have equivalent of the robot.txt for chatbots: https://towardsdatascience.com/l...

@fabian_maume @robert_rotznig @ashitvora My take is: SEO is just evolving. Evolving into Generative Engine Optimization. We wrote a bit about this hear, but at the end of the day the SEO fundamentals still hold true https://otterly.ai/blog/geo-gsvo/

Thanks for hunting us, Fabian! Since our first product hunt go live, the team completely rebuild the product - as some of you might recall Google rolling out AI Overviews only in May this year. Also the support for Perplexity.AI AND ChatGPT was added, and since October the product runs on full speed & in full operation mode.

Hi @fabian_maume & Product Hunt! This is Thomas, one of the co-founders here at Otterly.AI. I'm incredible excited to launch our latest update today on Product Hunt. By now, Otterly.AI is the first AI Search monitoring solution that monitors and analyzes BRAND mentions and LINKS of AI Overviews, Perplexity.AI and ChatGPT. We also celebrate more than 1,000 users by now. Let me know what you think of Otterly.AI

@thomas_peham Congrats on the launch! I’m confident this product has the potential to grow into a large and powerful platform. That said, I found it a bit challenging to get started, and I believe improving the hierarchy could greatly help new users. Logical hierarchy assumes that the most important functionality is at the top level, secondary functionality is at the second, etc. In practice it means Search Monitoring and Keyword Research should stand out from the rest of the interface, they could be the two most visible attraction points of the interface. It could be as simple as a page with two buttons with brief explanations. It’s also important that relationships between features and statuses are intuitive. I found it difficult to understand the connection between prompt statuses and sections, even after some experimentation. Making these relationships more transparent and predictable would significantly improve the experience. I'm not quite sure that breadcrumbs help to navigate the system. Starting at the 3rd level might be confusing. Plus, 1st and 2nd levels aren't clickable anyway. Visual hierarchy assumes that colors strengthen logical hierarchy between components. Color is a powerful tool, but it should be used with extreme caution. Roughly speaking, a single red button attracts 100% of the attention, while two red buttons attract 25% each while the rest 50% will be lost in confusion. BTW You can not even highlight the subscription button. Many products show a subscription modal after a user spent all free credits and tries to use paid functionality again. I find this approach quite effective since users aren't concerned about payment at the start and are reminded about it at the right time. Another idea is about the home page with two buttons I mentioned before. The system could check all results itself and find some insights that you could show on the home page. Reading large tables isn’t so easy for people, while for an LLM it isn’t a problem. Placing insights on the home page should simplify users’ lives and highlight the platform’s value. Despite all the comments, this is a solid foundation for a powerful platform!

I tried the service. Im not a SEO expert. How are people using pplx differently than google? Or are people using it more or less the same?
Thomas Peham
Hi @sentry_co - thanks for giving Otterly a try. I think the main difference to other SEO tools is that we particularly focus on AI Search Monitoring. Meaning: You can use Otterly to track brand mentions or website mentions on ChatGPT and Perplexity as well as AI Overview. This is primarily used by SEO teams and marketing overall to 1) understand how visible they are and 2) optimising their own visibility via content, brand or customer marketing tactics. Send me a DM and happy to have a in-depth conversation about it.

@thomas_peham Yeah. My question was a bit vague. And I know your brain is in ProductHunt launch mode at the moment. 😅 Anyway. I was thinking more from the user POV. With google. . Yes you search for cheap sneakers near me etc. But with PPLX etc. At least for me I prompt a little different. For me its more a research tool for coding. But I also research other things. I have more of a conversation where I start broad and then narrow it down, often just click the suggestions PPLX makes and follow it down the rabbit h hole. So for sneakers that might start like: Do i need special boots for the mountain in the summer. Pros and cons with mountain boots. What to think about when buying mountain boots etc etc. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on user patterns regarding prompting an AI vs good ol google. In order to maybe make better SEO filters on your platform.

Thanks @peterbuch! As Waffle is growing, you might also be interested how ChatGPT is covering your brand and how to optimize it - if so, let us know. We are here to help.

Really interesting. A pity that we don’t have data akin to Google trends for related searches that come from real usage. This is still a pretty interesting approximation. It may only help after a certain level of visibility, or once data has been used for training as well as just being found on retrieval. Well executed, will dive in more!

Hi @jalcantara - thanks for your thoughts. My take about AI Search optimization is that it is influencable via 1) traditional content tactics (high quality content that meets search intent 100%) and 2) how digital PR / user generated content tie into the visibilty too. I was tbh surprised to see that many reddit, g2, capterra, and similar platforms on AI Search

this is so useful and intuitive, thank you!

Super interesting - I've been watching for something like this. How are you plugging into using this information to drive growth? Recommendations? For small brand is particular, there is a lot of opportunity to optimize - not not a lot of time to research and this is all new (think SEO in the 2010s...) I'll be spending a lot of time playing with this!
