I’m Matt Watson, founder of Origin.
Origin is reimagining wealth management for the next generation. We’re an all-in-one platform, where you can track your spending and budget, actively invest, save, file taxes, and get expert financial guidance.
We’ve come a long way from when we started 5 years ago…
Back then, we launched Origin as a financial wellness benefit. We worked with leading employers to help their employees understand stock options. Equity was a black box. We started building and selling a product that helped employees understand their stock options and learn how to make smart financial decisions around equity. Then, we expanded into spending, net worth, and investment tracking and are now used and loved by employers such as DocuSign, Reddit, and Modern Health. We’re the #1 budgeting app in 2024, ranked by Forbes.
Last year, we took our product direct to consumer. We brought online even more features beyond tracking—including tax filing and estate planning—to become the most comprehensive wealth-building platform.
Today, we’re launching Origin on ProductHunt to celebrate the significant updates we’ve made to our platform and our new features. Here are a few of my favorites:

@max_savonin1 - yo yo! I'm the Product lead here for Origin Investments (aka brokerage), happy to answer a portion of this one for ya!
Fees: Origin does NOT charge any AUM (assets under management or advisory fees) that you’d often find elsewhere, which can be anywhere from 0.25% to 1% at competitors! Any operational costs we may have are priced in and already included with your monthly or annual membership to the Origin platform.
There are three ways to use Origin's brokerage platform:
1. The cash account provides access to an FDIC insured cash vehicle for shorter term savings needs.
2. The Automated Index account provides access to a variety of low-cost ETF-driven portfolios based on your risk tolerance and time horizon for longer term savings goals.
3. For investors who want to take a more hands-on approach, Origin offers Stock Bundles, which are typically 8-20 individual stocks tied together by a single theme or market trend. Bear in mind that the Stock Bundles are not actively managed and are non-discretionary in nature.
Security: We utilize bank-level 256-bit AES encryption and data is transmitted securely via HTTPS protocols. Our systems are monitored 24/7 and we partner only with industry-leading data hosting and security providers. Our partners also practice similar security measures.

Congrats team Origin! I was a heavy Mint user for years and sad when they closed it. Glad to finally find an alternative I'm happy to use and excited to see it keep improving so much.
I've been using this product for the past month and have been extremely impressed... I think this is the best product out there for someone who understands their finances. I work in fintech and try nearly every product out there. Most of the products are designed for people with very simple finances - a bank account, an investment account and that's about it. I have very complicated finances and honestly there isn't anything as comprehensive that actually works like Origin. It having (as far as I know) the best APY is just icing on the cake. Highly recommend it!

@sheel_mohnot That is a very interesting take "most of the products are designed for people with very simple finances". I've been saying similar, - 100 million people already manage their stocks and investments at Robinhood to Schwab to Coinbase - so yes I like the way you put it.

Generative AI has brought the world so many opportunities and potential, but it's in its infancy, and I must say that we, as engineers, are only scratching the surface. So much is yet to come!
Answering your question, we have a few layers to support our AI to guide people appropriately:
(1) Members can upvote or downvote, and that is shortlisted for our internal ongoing manual review
(2) We have trained the model (and continuously do so) in partnership with multiple certified financial advisors to support an unbiased and fiduciary approach
(3) We have been in the market providing holistic financial advice for hundreds of people for the last five years, so that has supported us quite extensively in training the absolute best AI model in the market for his specific purpose
(4) All messages exchanged from Sidekick (our AI) emphasize the importance of consulting a certified and fiduciary financial advisor before any substantial change in your financial plan
(5) At Origin, our members can also schedule video calls with certified financial advisors to polish the AI recommendations they might have received and further build a custom list of actions that leverage the best of AI and human-led financial advice!
To your point about integrations, we allow full historical data import from Mint if you were using them in the past) and is looking for alternatives.

@kyrylosilin great question! We tailor each individual's personalized guidance by using data from connected accounts. This automates much of the manual process you would do if you worked with an in-person financial advisor where they would need to ask and manually record your account info.
We work will the leading account aggregators like Plaid, MX, and Finicity. And we're constantly adding more to help more people see their full financial picture in Origin!
