Super stoked for this drop! I've known @subtlespirits for years — and have done several collabs during my time at Google and Uber. Earlier this spring, Josh and I met up and I told him about this new phenomenon that was emerging that we should jump on: NFTs! Specifically, given his background building community around exclusive rare spirit drops, if he layered on NFTs to certify both the bottles and the art, he'd have a highly differentiated product that would increase the value for the collectors of these products. He wrote up the origin story and waxes poetic about how this all fits together. In working with SF NFT artist Gabe Weis, Josh found a solid collaborator. I love the results!

Subtle Spirits is a contemporary independent bottling brand that combines rare spirits and fine art together. Our releases usually sell out within minutes to our list. Just like a painted masterpiece, the perfect food and wine pairing, or the right music to suit the mood, distilling spirits is an art form. The combination of these different spiritual mediums can be surreal and divine. Subtle Spirits Original releases feature commissioned artwork paired with our favorite single cask and blended spirits. Together they tell a story that heightens the experience beyond tasting what's inside the bottle. It is spiritual alchemy meets Michelin star synesthesia in a bottle. With our latest release, Prodigal Son, we did something completely revolutionary by combining luxury spirits, fine art, and blockchain technology. The first 20 bottles of Prodigal Son are available in a limited edition NFT available on OpenSea. The NFT package includes a numbered and a signed bottle of the single-barrel bourbon, Prodigal Son, and numbered and signed print of the artwork. Our first NFT auction begins today at 1 pm PT on OpenSea, and twelve of the NFTs have already pre-sold. The intersection of fine art, collectible spirits, and NFTs was a collision waiting to happen. The utility of having a record on a public ledger (the blockchain) that certifies the authenticity and origin of a collectible like spirits stands to change the industry forever. By authenticating a spirit with an NFT, collectors will be able to deal in confidence in secondary markets like never before. Subtle Spirits is ramping up its production in the fourth quarter of this year and will be releasing more NFT collaborations, as well as its first-ever blended whiskey.
