Hey everyone! Psyched to get this out into the wild. Will be here if you have any questions, but it's pretty simple. Notarize is the first on-demand remote electronic notary service, allowing anyone to legally notarize a document from their iPhone 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. It's valid nationally and connects customers with licensed Virginia electronic notaries by live video call. Simply download the app, prove your identity, fill out your document, and sign before a live agent to have it notarized instantly. Whole transaction takes 3-4 minutes.

@patk LOVE this, bravo!
Samir Doshi
@patk incredibly useful - feels good to have this service now
Alejandro Ugalde
@patk It seems like your website is not loading some CSS styles. It's loading default system fonts for me on Chrome, Firefox and Safari.
Pat Kinsel
@ugaldealex should be fixed. thanks for flagging!
Siddharth Gupta
@kevinrose @patk I love this video
Ryan Hoover
So, I never have to visit UPS again? 👍
Virginia Barnett
@rrhoover Right! Last time I needed a notary it was a Sunday, long story, but I had to track down a title agent friend who I still owe a favor to. Love this app!
Max Nucci
Excellent! Will you guys have an API so we can integrate into our document flow when needed? (Real Estate)
Pat Kinsel
@maxnucci API + SDK is definitely something we're considering.
Max Nucci
@patk 👌
Justin Winter
@patk 👍🏼
Corley
Love this, @patk. I swear you always find you need a notary at a time when notaries are not available. I added it to my helpful tools collection.
Geoffrey Weg
@corleyh @patk Once travelled to four different banks to find one, and then I had to wait for 20 minutes at the last bank while the notary finished his lunch. 🙁
Pat Kinsel
@geoffreyweg @corleyh I've heard so, so, so many stories.
Adam Marx
@corleyh @patk I definitely agree with this. I can actually see it being super helpful to college kids, as sometimes they need things notarized when the college offices might be closed. I had a similar experience when I was a senior with some forms I needed to have done, and would have certainly loved to have a tool like this to use. :D
Zoli
@patk - this is freaking genius. Notarizing is a huge PITA. Can't believe it's still a thing. Your video (sandwich made, I assume, based on the Adam cameo?) is awesome. That being said, I do think your pricing is a little high. I definitely would use it if I was in a pinch and needed something notarized ASAP... but I think $25 is a lot, considering you can just go to your local bank and get it done for free (at least in NY). Just a thought.
Pat Kinsel
@zolihonig I think the closest comparison is a traveling notary who will come to you. They typically charge $50 to $150 for a visit. I think we're an order of a magnitude more convenient (on demand with no scheduling or coordination) and cheaper. Also, our goal is to integrate into business workflows and many business are interested in splitting or covering the cost entirely. More to announce on that front soon :(
Biggs
$25 for each notary?
Pat Kinsel
@iammrbiggs Yup. Notary prices are typically set by the state and that's the fee in VA for electronic notary services. It's per notarization, not per page (which is often someone's next question as many in-person notaries can charge per page).
Irving Torres
@iammrbiggs As far as I know, a place nearby charges $10 per signature so it's not a big of a deal unless it's $25 plus fees (and it includes all signatures).
Thomas Kimura
Love that video!
Romain Bessuges
@_tomki Me too, absolutely brilliant !
Stephen M. Levinson
Great concept, I'm sure the app is great, but the video is trying too hard to be funny. I missed the old sandwich videos
Pat Kinsel
@stephenmarklevi every party has a pooper :)
David Carpe
brilliant! downloaded for my next need - and yes, it doesn't happen a lot but when the need arises, it is a total pain - either go to a bank, town hall, post office...nice work!
Sean E. Duncan
Awesome! But how am I going to remember this app when I need something notarized 2-10 years from now? (I'm not a notary regular)
Pat Kinsel
@seanevd download it and stick it in a folder!! Truth is, that's why I've made such an investment in the domain and brand. Furthermore, in 2-10 years the bank (or other institution) should be on our platform and they'll send you a transaction that leads you to us. [Or so we hope/plan]
Ouriel Ohayon
who produced your video? oh! spotted adam lissagor. i guess this was sandwhich videos :)
David Diamond
Jerry Gergich would approve

If you've ever had something notarized, you know what a PITA it is. Great example of finding opportunity in an unloved space.
yonatan doron
1st awesome video! 2nd, is this service available only in the US? 3rd - shared :)
Pat Kinsel
@jodoron At present, we are focused on US documents, but people can be overseas at the time of signing. The current limitation is that we use American states' drivers licenses to validate identity. We're working on other means to allow for foreign IDs, but that's the limiting factor right now. We think Notarize will be especially valuable for people overseas like expats, military families, etc.
Rustin Rassoli
Amazing product! Question: Who made this video??
Irving Torres
@rustinrassoli Sandwich Video. These guys make tons of videos. http://sandwichvideo.com/
Rustin Rassoli
@irvingtorresyc I saw Adam there, but he was there for a quick second, so I wasn't sure if it was their video or not. He usually makes longer appearances.
David Carpe
btw, my last one was for my marriage application stuff - you should consider getting this app featured on some of those big wedding sites - however, it will need to support dual identification or something like that
Pat Kinsel
@passingnotes We support supplementary IDs. Your drivers license is validated and you can then add a second ID like passport, utility bill, etc. As you say, some documents require this.
Daniel Grossberg
Term sheet and Product Hunt posting in the same day? Congrats guys! Looks awesome.
Joshua Dance
Very cool. How do you get the 'stamp'?
Pat Kinsel
@joshdance Virginia law requires a unique graphical image as the seal. They also require that an X509 certificate be applied to the document as part of the notarization, allowing people downstream to verify the notarization. So, we believe it's not just dramatically more convenient, but also equally more verifiable [before Notarize, it's just a paper journal !!!].
Greg Cross
Sounds amazing! Cant wait until Inneed this app
Terry Horner
Finally!
