Love this, @patk. I swear you always find you need a notary at a time when notaries are not available. I added it to my helpful tools collection.
Geoffrey Weg
@corleyh @patk Once travelled to four different banks to find one, and then I had to wait for 20 minutes at the last bank while the notary finished his lunch. 🙁
Pat Kinsel
@geoffreyweg @corleyh I've heard so, so, so many stories.
Adam Marx
@corleyh @patk I definitely agree with this. I can actually see it being super helpful to college kids, as sometimes they need things notarized when the college offices might be closed. I had a similar experience when I was a senior with some forms I needed to have done, and would have certainly loved to have a tool like this to use. :D
Max Nucci
Excellent! Will you guys have an API so we can integrate into our document flow when needed? (Real Estate)
Pat Kinsel
@maxnucci API + SDK is definitely something we're considering.
Pat Kinsel
Hey everyone! Psyched to get this out into the wild. Will be here if you have any questions, but it's pretty simple. Notarize is the first on-demand remote electronic notary service, allowing anyone to legally notarize a document from their iPhone 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. It's valid nationally and connects customers with licensed Virginia electronic notaries by live video call. Simply download the app, prove your identity, fill out your document, and sign before a live agent to have it notarized instantly. Whole transaction takes 3-4 minutes.

@patk LOVE this, bravo!

@patk It seems like your website is not loading some CSS styles. It's loading default system fonts for me on Chrome, Firefox and Safari.
Pat Kinsel
@ugaldealex should be fixed. thanks for flagging!

This is a brilliant idea. Hey, @patk, you still taking angel investment for your current round? I know a guy who's unassuming, quick and low maintenance. :) Would make for a good story too, and life is all about the stories.

I used Notarize yesterday for the first time. It only took 10 minutes from signup to completion and saved me an hour hunting down and traveling to a notary public. Great experience – will use again. 🙏🏼

Pros:

Super easy and fast to notarize a document

Cons:

Unable to physically mail the notarized doc

@patk - this is freaking genius. Notarizing is a huge PITA. Can't believe it's still a thing. Your video (sandwich made, I assume, based on the Adam cameo?) is awesome. That being said, I do think your pricing is a little high. I definitely would use it if I was in a pinch and needed something notarized ASAP... but I think $25 is a lot, considering you can just go to your local bank and get it done for free (at least in NY). Just a thought.
Pat Kinsel
@zolihonig I think the closest comparison is a traveling notary who will come to you. They typically charge $50 to $150 for a visit. I think we're an order of a magnitude more convenient (on demand with no scheduling or coordination) and cheaper. Also, our goal is to integrate into business workflows and many business are interested in splitting or covering the cost entirely. More to announce on that front soon :(

Would be curious how bitcoin/blockchain technology might be integrated here such that a live agent wouldn't be necessary... and the authenticity is created once the document is part of the blockchain. I saw some interesting technology recently where new home documents were authenticated vis-a-vis the blockchain. Thoughts? Ross D. Blankenship Founding Partner | http://AngelKings.com
Pat Kinsel
@rossblankenship It's my understanding and belief that we are a long, long way from replacing humans in notary transactions. There are legal requirements for notarization that are set by state governments. Notaries [and signing agents] also play an important role in major transactions like mortgage closings beyond just witnessing the signature. I do think that blockchain could be integrated into our system to augment the transaction record [like how we use X509 certificates currently] but I don't see blockchain replacing notary agents any time soon.

brilliant! downloaded for my next need - and yes, it doesn't happen a lot but when the need arises, it is a total pain - either go to a bank, town hall, post office...nice work!
Dilyar Askar
Superb idea! I love the ideas behind it and the video production! When do you guys have plans on expanding to Canada?
David Carpe
btw, my last one was for my marriage application stuff - you should consider getting this app featured on some of those big wedding sites - however, it will need to support dual identification or something like that
Pat Kinsel
@passingnotes We support supplementary IDs. Your drivers license is validated and you can then add a second ID like passport, utility bill, etc. As you say, some documents require this.
Mr. Wilson
This is a cool idea. However I get documents notarized at no cost at my local bank. But I can see how this would be helpful for others.

*Oops. Answered above. Are their plans to open this up as a service like Stripe (api+sdk)? Can imagine governments and other agencies seeing this as a way to reduce friction and provide better service time with this.
Adam Sigel
If you've ever had something notarized, you know what a PITA it is. Great example of finding opportunity in an unloved space.
Sean E. Duncan
Awesome! But how am I going to remember this app when I need something notarized 2-10 years from now? (I'm not a notary regular)
Pat Kinsel
@seanevd download it and stick it in a folder!! Truth is, that's why I've made such an investment in the domain and brand. Furthermore, in 2-10 years the bank (or other institution) should be on our platform and they'll send you a transaction that leads you to us. [Or so we hope/plan]
Ian Mikutel
Great idea! I'm especially a fan of the @Miles_Teller doppelgänger: https://twitter.com/IanMikutel/s...
Ryan Hoover
So, I never have to visit UPS again? 👍
Virginia Barnett
@rrhoover Right! Last time I needed a notary it was a Sunday, long story, but I had to track down a title agent friend who I still owe a favor to. Love this app!
Stephen M. Levinson
Great concept, I'm sure the app is great, but the video is trying too hard to be funny. I missed the old sandwich videos
Pat Kinsel
@stephenmarklevi every party has a pooper :)
Amlan Das
This is awesome. Finally making it that much easier to quickly get something notarized. What's the process like to apply to be a Notary?
Pat Kinsel
@itsdasz You have to be a licensed Virginia [standard] notary and must then purchase a digital certificate. You then reapply with Virginia, provide your certificate, indicate the platform you'll operate on [Notarize in this case], and must then be approved to serve as an electronic notary. We also require that all of our agents pass background screenings, carry liability insurance, and take additional training.
Patrick Coombe
Interesting app. I never thought this would be a law that an app would be able to skirt. Either way very interesting, I am a Florida notary and will say it is very handy to have. It can also help bring in leads (ask me how)
Ouriel Ohayon
who produced your video? oh! spotted adam lissagor. i guess this was sandwhich videos :)
