@daveambrose@rrhoover there are two big reasons I chose Memberful:
1) it integrates with my existing Stripe account (at this point, I only want to use Stripe as my payment gateway)
2) it has a great Wordpress plugin that instantly turns any WP install into a paid membership site. I've gone a step further, and am using it on a Buddypress install.
@mijustin did you consider Kajabi when you were building a membership site? I imagine you chose memberful because you wanted something self hosted correct?
@rrhhover I wish I'd been the one to hunt this product. @drewstrojny and his team do a wonderful job of not only providing a great product but amazing personal customer service, even helping me with customizations where possible.
Good question @rrhoover!
Memberful started as a scratch your itch project (see http://thethemefoundry.com), and has turned into something a bit more focused.
In short, the web (up until recently) has been a mostly made up of free content supported by ads. This is slowly changing. Paying for valuable content and community certainly isn't a new concept off the web (think magazines, newspapers, clubs). The web just hasn't caught up yet. We're excited and honored to help content creators and communities on the web build a more sustainable business model as we all move forward in this direction.
I realize it probably sounds like I'm romanticizing a bit, but we're really stoked about it :)
What surprises me the most is the difference between what you think you're going to build and what actually gets built over time as you respond to what customers actually care about. You always think you know more than you do.
