Interesting concept but suuuuppperr cheese ball. These are and will only ever be 'D-List' celebrities who will do any small job for a couple bucks, who don't care about how cheesy this makes them look. They are not worried about these ruining their reputation because professionally they are fighting against complete irrelevance. Younger consumers who live on Instagram will see through the cheesy and inauthentic nature of the ad spot and it will be a negative signal, not a positive one. I literally would not have known these were celebrities unless they told me they were. So for an old, non-technical savvy audience this might 'work', but the % of the population who this works for is decreasing by the day. The interesting thing with celebrities and video I have seen recently, and I forget the name, but you can pay celebrities, much more well known ones but still not 'A-listers' to do a personal 15-30 second personal greeting. Great for a birthday greeting type thing as a gift. Lots of reality show, sports, Instagram influencers. $100 for 30 seconds of your significant others favorite reality show actor to sing Happy birthday to them, great idea.

@jcwinter The website you are referring to is cameo, which is something we will be working in to our platform also. As far as your other comments go, you are certainly speaking from your perspective, which is valid. However, the numbers show something different, such as this small quote from an article written by Visa.... "In fact, consumers over 50 now account for more than half of all U.S. spending. They are also responsible for more spending growth over the past decade than any other generation, including the coveted millennials." https://usa.visa.com/partner-wit... Every person over 50 will recognize these celebrities. I would say every person over 40 would recognize them also. So, we won't have any trouble getting engagement for the local businesses using these celebrities. One of our other products we will be releasing soon is celebrity video ad builder for e-commerce companies, which is something you will probably like, assuming the celebrities are relevant to you audience. I would love to talk with you more about this. Your opinions on our upcoming celebrity e-commerce video ad builder could really help us shape it.
Matt Gardner
This feels... awful and cheesy. Maybe the local business angle works within the USA because you have that kind of un-polished local advertising on TV? In Canada and in SaaS wouldn't go near this, personally. The green screen effect is terrible.
Susan Miner
@thatmattgardner Hi Matt - and ouch! πŸ˜‰ I'm here to get feedback and part of the process is about accepting the good with the bad so thank you for sharing your thoughts! We know we can't please everyone, but you're right - we've focused mainly targeting small businesses in the US as we build and develop our product. We know these celebrities will be lesser known in the UK for example. Do you have any suggestions on how you think we could improve our production to appeal to other markets?
Ryan Mark
This concept seems rather deceptive. Celebrities making vague, stock statements which can be applied to any ad? Are there even Am I missing something here? You guys seem earnest so I'd like to give the benefit of doubt.
Susan Miner
@ryanwmark, the only way a company such as our's could provide a celebrity video to a local business for $399 is for the celebrity to speak a generic script. The other alternative is for the local business to pay $30,000+ to get a video where the celebrity specifically mentions the business, which most can't afford. We are attempting to bring celebrity marketing power to smaller businesses to give them a differentiator over their competitors. So far, the feedback has been phenomenal.
Ryan Mark
@susan_miner Yeah I understand the economics of it. There seems to be too much a trade-off for the lower priced arrangement, but maybe your customers will disagree. And a comparison of those two arrangements seems a bit dubious considering they aren't even aware of the ad/product they're representing. Do you see your service at odds with the current trend of influencers and micro-influencers?
Susan Miner
@ryanwmark Here is a link to a similar service which creates the same generic video but with a normal, non famous spokesperson....
They haver 100K businesses on the platform, or so they claim. Even if it's half that, they have proven the model with local businesses. We specialize in SEO for local businesses so we knew what the SMBs would like before we started the project. We feel like this service is different than any type of influencer marketing because our celebs are not posting on their social media. Our videos are used on the business owner's social media. Our videos also last whereas an influencer post gets lost in all of the subsequent posts. Many of our clients will also put the video on their website, which is great for them. In addition, we have many clients who are going to use the video in their paid ads, especially by boosting the post. I really do appreciate your comments. Congrats on getting funded for your project. It looks interesting.

Great idea - eager to see how this develops

Pros:

Celebrities to promote your business!

Cons:

Would be great to be able to choose the celebs

😎 Sam Hurley 😎
Very clever concept indeed!!! But completely agree with you on the selection process... πŸ‘Œ
Susan Miner
@sam___hurley Hi Sam, thank you for your feedback. When we were developing the product, this was a question that came up, but we decided to randomise the celebrity every month to keep our users engaged, sticky and to provide a sense of FOMO. But stay tuned, this could be an upgrade option. ;)
😎 Sam Hurley 😎
@susan_miner That makes perfect sense, Susan! I like it. Also, I guess there could even be an issue of popular celebs becoming over-booked LOL. (It must be tough being so known, right?!). πŸ˜†
Susan Miner
@sam___hurley ha yes exactly - I just couldn't handle my despair if no one chose me. ;)
Nabeena M
This is pretty unique when it comes to marketing videos - not sure I know of another SaaS business using celebrity personalities as the USP. I think there are a few improvements that could be made with the on boarding journey, to tease the user into personalising their video, taking information a little at a time to personalise their video on the fly and maybe even show them a preview before they commit to subscribing.
Susan Miner
@nabeenam Thanks Nabeena, we think we're pretty unique too - but doesn't every founder! :-D We're actually working to improve the sign-up process, taking on board some of the points you've mentioned. Hopefully we can roll that out in the next release.
Evan Besser
Hey @susan_miner . I'm working on a project that also involves engaging celebrities. Would love to know how you acquired those users!
Susan Miner
@evan_besser Hi Evan. Would love to know more about your project? What are you working on? Our collaboration with celebrities has come through personal networks. My modelling career has enabled me to build a really strong network of agents and celebrities over many, many years in the business. My advice would be to approach agents and build relationships or approach smaller, lesser-known celebrities directly - so many can be contacted on social media.
Ian Naylor

I love how this SaaS makes this kind of influencer marketing attainable for all types and size of business. We know WoM and advocacy are powerful marketing strategies and this tool just makes it a snap!

Pros:

It makes creating high end promo video's so simple, not to mention the celeb endorsement amazing!

Cons:

Would be good if there was a larger range of celebrities to put in the endorsement videos.

Ian Naylor
How often do the celebs change?
Susan Miner
@ian_naylor Once a month Ian.
Ian Naylor
Thanks @susan_miner I see some real synergies with this and our own small business customer base. Do you have an affiliate or agency option?
Susan Miner
@ian_naylor Hi Ian. Yes that's actually part of a future launch. We have an agency plan that will allow users to create promo videos that can be used to send to clients. Agents can then earn a commission from each sign up. Does that sound like something you'd be interested in?
Izaak Crook
This is a really fun idea - would love to see some British celebs on here in the future!
Susan Miner
@izaakcrook Hello Izaak. We would love to increase our range of celebrities in the future. At the moment we're focused mainly on US celebrities, but you never know! Watch this space.
J LaCour
@izaakcrook, This is Jude LaCour, founder at Megarray.com, which owns Megarray.io. We will be expanding to the UK and EU next year. We would love to work with you. You can join as an affiliate at Megabiz.io. And, if you have other ideas, please feel free to contact me.
Hotel Selfish
Please add Jennifer Lawrence. https://giphy.com/gifs/dance-jla...
Susan Miner
@hotelselfish hahaha sure. I'll just call her agent.
Becky Halls

Looking forward to see how this develops

Pros:

Looks slick, and easy to use

Cons:

Non so far

Becky Halls
This looks fantastic, I've not seen anything like this, so simple and accessible, taking a lot of the pain out of influencer marketing.
Susan Miner
@becky_halls Hi there Becky. We haven't either to be honest. From personal experience we know what getting celebrity endorsed videos aren't cheap - so to be able to combine tech and video marketing in this way opens a lot of opportunity for small businesses and brands.
Peter Fox
Unique idea! The signup process could definitely be improved though
Susan Miner
@tickgood Thank Peter. Would love to get your feedback on how you think we can make this better.
Aaron O'Leary
Interesting idea! It must have been an interesting journey trying to connect celebrities to this app?
Susan Miner
@aaronoleary We think so too. If huge brands can use celebrities to endorse their business and products, then why not the small businesses too? It's not the easiest job trying to hunt down celebs, but we have a great network and a great team making it happen. πŸ˜‰
J LaCour
@aaronoleary, convincing the celebrities actually took the most time. It's a new concept which they had not heard of previously. But, we were able to get them by paying them really well. It's expensive for us but we feel it will be worth it for the local businesses.
Soulscape
Are there examples of the finished video?
Susan Miner
@tosoulscape yes, you can preview a sample here: https://youtu.be/lDbA2fsEInU - would love to hear your thoughts!
Ross Currie
@tosoulscape @susan_miner So, it's basically a pre-recorded stock video with a photo of your choice behind them, after an initial intro to who they are?
Susan Miner
@rossdcurrie - yes exactly, users can upload their logo, business name, contact and address details, upload multiple images to customise the background and upload their own review. In future releases we'd like to add more choice regarding scripts and business types as the product develops.
Cecille Grey
Not sure about the actor intro at the beginning of the video - I’d want to see my business being promoted first and foremost.
Susan Miner
@cecillegrey Thanks for the feedback - we actually got some user feedback a few weeks ago saying the same thing, and we are looking to improve the final video, making the intro shorter.
J LaCour
@cecillegrey We are also working on a version of the video where the celebrity intro reel is at the end of the video. So, it will be the celebrity talking first then we go to a video about the celebrity. Do you think this would work better?
Babken Karapetyan
So this is really good
Susan Miner
@babken_karapetyanm, thank you so much. I'm glad you like it. Your comment helps.
Mike
How cool is this for a SMB to get these videos done for them on auto pilot with real customer reviews and then they auto post to Twitter, Facebook and Youtube. SMB's need consistent content and this will be a great tool.
Susan Miner
@mikegerard95 Thanks for the support Mike. We hope small businesses feel the same way too.
David Sanchez
So for business can be good tools
