How does this differ from SendGrid's dashboards? Just merging transactional and campaign data?

@stewartjarod Hey Jarod, we partnered closely with SendGrid and their customers to discover painpoints customers had but were not currently solved by SendGrid's dashboards. There were a handful, but the main ones are: - Ability to segment and analyze campaigns by custom attributes - Ability to download a list of user emails who performed a given action (open, click, etc.) at any point in the campaign - Full access to the data and freedom to run a larger variety of ad-hoc queries against your transactional email + campaign data using Keen's Data Explorer

@stewartjarod Hi Jarod - Here are some additional technical features that make me excited about it. - Keen consumes SendGrid's realtime raw event stream, then organizes it into a very neat model of clicks, opens, bounces, etc. Keen also enriches the data with some information like day of week that makes some new types of querying available. The data also includes any custom properties you've set on the SG side, like "account_name" for example. - Keen keeps the data forever, so you can at any time run any arbitrary analysis on it, down to the individual user. Most email analytics tools only offer aggregate reporting after a certain time period. - Just like other event data stored in Keen, you can build realtime charts and graphs on the incoming data. - All of the data is queryable via API, so you can build programmatic analysis and automation on top of it, or white label data views in your own product as several of our customers have done.

Co-founder & CEO of Keen IO here. It was amazing to watch our team & SendGrid's team work side-by-side on this app over the Summer, and we're really proud of the results! SendGrid is first and foremost a customer-driven company, and so are we. So it was a joy to collaborate with them on how to make something new and impactful for each others' customers. As the lines get blurred between marketing email and product/transactional email, we wanted to make something with both self-contained value and developer extensibility. We know that a lot of the PH community use transactional & marketing email to fit together the user's journey, so we very much look forward to your feedback!

@sherm8n Hey Sherman! It does! All your SendGrid email data will stream to Keen so you can use the SendGrid Analytics app to build segments / download lists and the explorer to run ad-hoc queries!

I work at Keen. I know I'm biased, but I'm in love. We ourselves are users of SendGrid & Keen. I run our a lot of our marketing and I use our event data every day. This integration makes it extremely easy to run detailed analysis on specific emails clicks, opens, etc, down the user. And now I can run user funnels on it amongst other site data like pageviews, signups, etc.

Pros:

The new data model is amazing! Neatly organized into opens, bounces, etc. Now has geo data and other extras. It feels really empowering.

Cons:

While this tool requires no coding or programming, its for relatively data-savvy marketers and devs (which most are these days).

I'm really excited for this easy to setup integration. Now we can all have amazing analytics for Sendgrid when we want to get advanced analytics on our product/transactional email. At my companies we've built a lot of internal tooling that mimics this type of email analytics. Now it's time to consider throwing all that away and replace it with this ;)

Two great companies collaborating to solve a huge marketing problem - tracking transactional emails. Sendgrid created the awareness that transactional emails and blast emails were very separate. They built a great delivery system and their analytics were good but this takes it next level, setting the foundation for really great last click attribution and omnichannel customer tracking. Great job 👍

Taylor from the Keen IO Community team here. For as long as I can remember that I've been giving examples of "event data," I have used email as an example. It's a perfect example and a great fit for our platform. I am super happy to see the v2.0 of this partnership with SendGrid. The team over at SendGrid has built an awesome API platform, and I'm glad we could also team up with them as a fellow developer-friendly API platform. When you really think about it, the first version of the SendGrid Email Analytics dashboard app was built by Heitor Tashiro Sergent, a Keen IO Community member, a few years ago: https://www.airpair.com/sendgrid.... I'm glad to see we could iterate and keep building on this idea. Yay for developer-friendly APIs that allow you to build much bigger and greater things!
