Kapsule (short for time capsule) is a social app that allows users to record and share video messages with anyone in the future. Not in hours, days, or weeks - but in months, years, or even decades.
👋Hi Product Hunt community! Kevin here, Founder & CEO of Kapsule.
🥳 I'm excited to announce version 2.0.0 of Kapsule has launched on the Apple App Store & Google Play Store. 🚀
What is Kapsule?
Kapsule (short for time capsule) is a social media app that allows users to record and share video messages with anyone in the future.
How does it work?
Video messages (called Kapsules) are uploaded and preserved securely in the cloud and delivered to their recipients months, years, or even decades in the future. Kapsule is the first app designed to outlive its creators and connect the world: past, present, and future.
What’s new in version 2.0.0?
200 days after the inception of Kapsule, I’m excited to launch version 2.0.0 with a new and modern user interface and a feature-packed release consisting of:
• Blurry thumbnails to tease recipients of incoming Kapsules you created
• Import your phone contacts with single tap
• Invite phone contacts via text message
• Improved QR Codes (aka KapsCodes)
• See when recipients watch your Kapsules
• 10x more confetti after creating Kapsules 🎉
Why did I build this?
I originally built Kapsule for my son Ryan, as a way to communicate with him in the future - even if I wasn’t alive to deliver the messages myself. But what started out as a labor of love quickly grew into what you see today in 200 days. Every line of code, every pixel was created by me for him.
Ryan, one day you’ll be reading this. Just know that I love you and that I did all of this for you. My only wish is that I made you proud of me. I love you buddy.

Your future self will thank you. 🙏
This is cool! Love how it breaks the social media pattern of making you compare yourself against everyone else. Is there any guidance on what to talk about to your future self or is it entirely freeform?
@david_glass It's open to whatever people want to use it for. Most of the feedback received is from university students who record video messages to themselves on graduation.
