QR Unveil reveals the raw content behind any QR code before you open it. Stay safe from phishing and malicious links with this free, privacy-focused iOS app.
Hey Product Hunt community!
I’m the developer behind QR Unveil, and I’m thrilled to share this project with you. I built this app because I saw a real gap in how we interact with QR codes—especially on iOS.
The default iOS QR reader opens links without any checks, which is a serious security risk. Some websites can deploy malware to take over your phone or access your contacts, and I wanted a way to see what’s behind a QR code before taking that leap.
As a developer, I also needed a tool to access the raw content of QR codes I create for my own apps—something the iOS reader just doesn’t handle well. Plus, I’ve seen too many people get scammed by QR codes in public spaces (like fake parking meter stickers!), and with parking systems increasingly relying on QR codes, we need better education and tools to stay safe. QR Unveil lets you reveal raw content, run security checks (like HTTP vs HTTPS and redirects), and even organize your scans with labels and location tags—all while keeping your data private.
I’d love to hear your thoughts! Have you ever hesitated to scan a QR code, or do you have your own horror stories? Let’s chat about how we can make scanning safer for everyone.
