I recently downloaded and played with Waterlogue (shared by @schlaf: http://www.producthunt.co/posts/...) that turns photos into water color paintings. It's rad but it's not a _real_ oil painted canvas like Instapainting provides.
There are a lot of these "get a photo on a painting" services. eg http://www.anyart.com/, around for a few years. I have a few paintings in my apartment made this way - reproductions of my favorite oil and digital paintings.
Not trying to knock Instapainting by the way. But I'd be quite curious what the differentiators are.
