We are a small team of five and we use HipChat for most of our internal communication, even when we are all at the office. We've also integrated GitHub and we are notified of code submissions, Intercom.io to be notified about new comments, etc. We've even integrated HipChat with our site's backend to get notified of new purchases, and other kinds of activity.
