Hims — Helping men prevent hair loss, erectile dysfunction and more
Featured
135

Hims is a men's wellness brand built to help guys tackle those uncomfortable topics related to their health. Men aren’t supposed to care for themselves. We call bullshit. We offer products to prevent hair loss, erectile disfunction, aging skin, and more of the stuff you care about.

Love how you are challenging out dated notions of what it is to be a guy @andrewdudum 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

That is a beautiful site.

My hair is thinning faster than my heart beats. I knew this day would come but this is the phucking 21st century. I currently take Propecia, which is said to have erectile issues...I won’t go there. Does your product not only helps to prevent but can regrow, providing the head is not that bald?

Switched to Roman.

Pros:

Great to order product online.

Cons:

Ridiculous process. Re-order is more difficult than original order. They keep charging me, even though they havent shipped anything.

Nice that it's focused on issues that men don't typically talk about

Pros:

Zero friction to talk with doctors. Great branding.

Cons:

Can't wait for more products to launch

Wow, the new fire tree? Tell a story and people part with money I have never commented on product has before and I have no problem with people making a success of their business so good luck to you But both propecia and VIAGRA can now be bought in a local pharmacy and more than that the trademarks and patents are gone so you can even buy generic versions of both at a cheaper price! I remember someone once describing start ups and some of the modelling and describing it as "Products that do the things that your mum won't do for you anymore" In this case that may not be so true lol But really this is a delivery service

Forcing customer to contact support in order cancel an order is borderline a dark pattern.

I know a number of doctors who specialize in hair loss (and hair loss research) with regard to multiple causes, including androgenetic alopecia and autoimmune diseases. None of them regard any shampoo or biotin as effective in treating male pattern hair loss...unless you want to keep your nails healthy as can be - biotin will help do that.

If you're man who's suffering from male pattern hair loss, it's probably best to save your money and stick with Minoxidil (most commonly known as Rogaine) and Finasteride (most commonly known as Propecia). I understand what Hims is doing from a business standpoint, but the combinations of products that they sell for hair loss are oddly arbitrary. Minoxidil and/or Finasteride are the standard treatment for male pattern baldness.

I have not used the Hims service, so I can't speak to the process by which they evaluate patients/customers. But while the rate of side effects from Finasteride is very low and the drug is commonly regarded as quite safe, I do hope ample information is given to each person beyond a link to a list of side effects. Some doctors will hand out Finasteride like candy; others will recommend a PSA test as a baseline, and even a semen analysis to be thorough (though I don't think this is even near being a common recommendation). In any case, seeing a dermatologist in person to rule out any other forms of hair loss can be a good practice, too.

Pros:

Helps normalize/destigmatize men's hair loss products

Cons:

Selling you (some) things you likely don't need.

Biotin has been proven to help strengthen people's nails and hair.. It also helps promote healthy skin. I don't think it says on the Hims site that Biotin is going to help you grow hair back. Also, the shampoo doesn't claim to help you grow your hair back either. It's just a shampoo that give your current hair some volume. The trial pack comes with all 4 items: Finasteride, minoxidil, biotin, and the shampoo. If you don't want or need any of those items you just un-check the boxes online and wow look at that, your next months shipment is way cheaper. They provide you with tons of information before, during/after consultation, and in each package. Hims is very upfront about what each product does. You are being misleading, not them. I used Minoxidil only for about 11 months with little to no improvement, that's why I sought after Finasteride a while ago. This company provides me with an easy and significantly cheaper solution for what I need.

@lord_sharks I'm sorry, but I fail to see how my review was misleading. In sum I offered that: 1. "None of them regard any shampoo or biotin as effective in treating male pattern hair loss." To further detail this point, I can say that this extends to both medical and cosmetic issues. That is, biotin will have no effect on the pathology of the hair loss, and according to those doctors I have spoken to (this of course and necessarily being of a limited, personal account, so other doctors may draw different conclusions), biotin has no significant bearing on the appearance/volume of hair. As for the shampoo, as per the description on the Hims site, the shampoo they are selling is "formulated to reduce levels of DHT in the scalp (the hormone that causes hair-loss) and adds volume to your hair. In short, it helps you keep your hair." In view of the information I have received from specialists, this reads as inaccurate. However, Hims offers reasoning, evidence, and links to studies on their website to substantiate what the product is said to do. Whether or not you should be satisfied by this information is your prerogative. I admittedly have not read those studies, nor am I a doctor or clinician, so I cannot comment on the integrity of them. As for the shampoo's effect on volume and appearance, I similarly have no absolute evidence to offer. I would think in my casual analysis that its benefits have to do with the individual, their body, their hair type, hair thickness, and density. As it is with any shampoo, it may have some benefit for some people, and not so much for others. I haven't proclaimed whether someone *absolutely* should or shouldn't use what Hims is offering. 2. "The combinations of products that they sell for hair loss are oddly arbitrary." As a further detail to this point, I can say that one such combination currently being sold on the Hims site (as of 11/19/18) is "The Edible Hair Loss Kit". The combination in this case is biotin and finasteride. The copy on the product page is as follows: "Science says this combination of products is proven to stop hair loss in its tracks. It's the comprehensive answer to questions like "is it me or is my hair thinning?" I think it is fair to say that this at least insinuates that biotin plays a role in this stopping "hair loss in its tracks". That is, again, relative to the information I have received from professionals - which the only account I could offer here - this claim is a little misleading. But then, if we're being semantically thorough, whether or not it's misleading depends on how you interpret stopping "hair loss in its tracks". 3. "I have not used the Hims service, so I can't speak to the process by which they evaluate patients/customers." I find it odd that you would say I'm being misleading when I quite clearly stated my ignorance about the Hims service. I went to say that "I do hope ample information is given to each person beyond a link to a list of side effects." According to you, they in fact do this, which is of course great. In my review I only offered what perspective I could (which I think is the reasonable scope of a review), based on knowledge and practice of the specialists I have interacted with. In other words, what knowledge I have is based on convention, pragmatism, my own experience, and therefore reflects practice common to the doctors mentioned, not scientific omniscience. Overall, whether someone should use Hims depends on a number of factors. I can't account for how much something like finasteride would cost an individual, as that can depend upon their health care plan. Similarly, I can't account for how well a product would work for them, whether the desired effect is true or perceived. I was simply saying that relative to common medical, dermatological practice, and relative to what Hims at least seems to be claiming, and relative to the price of their service, it might not be the best option for some. And this is why my review is clearly marked as neutral. I think Hims can be a great option for some, and overall I applaud and appreciate what the company is doing. I'm glad that their service is beneficial to you, but I don't think that fact warrants any condescension or accusation towards me.

@alexthayworth They dont say biotin helps grow hair back, just give them a fuller look. They do send minoxidil and finisterride which is the actual treatment and they only thing doctors recommend for hairgrowth

I wanted to try out their services, I filled out everything correctly, uploaded photos of myself and my photo ID, paid for the service up front... Then the doctor messaged me and refused to service me in my time of need. I explained to him that I would like a reason why you are refusing to help me. He told me it was because of one of my answers in the forms, which I then explained he misunderstood. He didn't care, and told me to go see a doctor near me. (Mind you, I explained to him I moved to a new area and am not comfortable with going to a new doctor about this embarrassing problem. They didn't care.)

But everything happens for a reason... I found another competitor of theirs, Roman, and they were able to help me and shipped the discreet package immediately and I received it 3 days later. I also didn't have to pay up front with them, and the first month is free up to $50!!! MUCH better deal and service than ForHims. HIGHLY recommend Roman Pharmacy at GetRoman.com

Pros:

They refunded my money, and i was able to get the same product, at a cheaper cost, from another company called Roman.

Cons:

Doctors gave me hard time and wouldn't work with me as a patient. The doctor misunderstood one of my answers, and REFUSED to help me!

shatter cat

Honestly I would stay far away from these guys. Terrible experience overall. Do not reccomend.

Pros:

Nothing. Customer service is absolute garbage

Cons:

Can’t answer general questions correctly and NEVER responded in a timely manner. ‘Doctor’ was inconsiderate and dismissive.

What a waste of time, told me I needed 3 blood pressure readings 12 hours apart. I told them I gave you my blood pressure reading already and Everybody and Everywhere I look this reading shows I gave healthy blood pressure except your Doctors you use for this site. Then they sent back we refunded you and for me to see a Dr in person have a good day. I said thanks for wasting my time fuck off

how cool!

$5 is for the docs consultation - non-refundable and it will take weeks to go through their process,

Pros:

non

Cons:

Very Shaddy website - they will attempt to triple your order

Mike Meske
@hramz123 It didn't take that long for me. And to see a doctor with an appointment sometimes takes months to get in. They never tried to triple my order. They suggested a few extras but it was no big deal to turn them down and move on. Relax a little. 😋
H Bobby

Used it every other day for a month and definitely saw a difference in the texture of my hair. Let's see how it is in a year from now

Pros:

Shampoo is very good for my hair but skeptical about it preventing hair loss.

Cons:

none

Horrible customer service horrible scheme go fuck yourselves

I don't know why people are hating on this brand. I used to be prescribed Finasteride through a dermo in town and took it for a few months. Since my insurance doesn't cover cosmetics it cost me $100 a month ($3/pill) and I couldn't make that happen every month.

I heard about Hims on a few podcasts I listen to and decided to try it. I paid $5 for a trial, and then just had to confirm some things, answer a few questions, and send a couple pictures to the doctor. People don't understand that you have to discuss all this stuff before they just mail you a prescription. Sure it costs $5 upfront but the value of the items without the prescription is easily $30 at least. The doctor responded promptly and we talked back and forth. When everything was confirmed my stuff was shipped. This included shampoo, biotin gummies, minoxidil, and a month of Finasteride.

I also emailed customer support with some general questions. It took a day or two but they were super nice and helpful.

After you do the trial pack, you can go online and alter your order. Don't need the shampoo? Fine, they take that out and you don't pay for it. That goes for any of the secondary products.

All I'm saying is I get a month of a prescription I need, mailed to me, for about $33 with tax. That is 1/3 of what it normally costs me. If you can find the stuff cheaper elsewhere that's all fine, but don't complain about a company trying to save people money and hassle. I don't have the time or money to go to regular doctor visits for something that I know I need.

Pros:

Quality, accessibility, fast and easy consultation

Cons:

none so far

Mike Thompson
I get propecia from costco for $13 for 3 month supply. Lol
Matt Gräz
This service has been incredibly convenient for me!
Guy Ball

My order has been delayed for some reason and I'm still waiting to hear why. Have sent 3 emails requesting update with no response back. Real close to asking my credit card company to refund my money.

Pros:

Good promises

Cons:

No delivery and no customer support

Kevin Frankenfeld
Simple, easy purchase process for products pretty much across the board. Haircare & skincare products are great, looks good on the counter, and should work well for any guy trying to get his pretty on.
