Hey Product Hunt! I'm Sara, and I'm the CEO of GitBook, a knowledge-sharing platform built for technical teams. This is by far our biggest launch of this year, and I'm super excited to share it with you all! But first, a little bit about how we got here… Ever since we first started GitBook (in 2014!) it’s been our goal to be the best platform for creating and collaborating on amazing documentation. That started with open-source public docs, but recently we’ve been using our experience to improve how teams handle technical information internally, too. And what we’re releasing today is a huge step forward on that path — with new features and deep integrations built specifically to help engineering teams document, improve and discover internal knowledge. Oh, and we’ve also got a pretty cool new brand and UI to go alongside it. We hope you love it as much as we do! Anyway, let’s talk features: 💬 Turn Slack conversations into documentation — The new GitBook Slack bot can take a thread, extract the useful info, and turn it into docs. Plus, it can answer questions using information in your knowledge base — just ask. 🛠️ Create docs while you code — Narrate a quick guide in VS Code and GitBook will combine your actions and voiceover into documentation. This one can answer questions, too — just like our Slack bot. ✂️ Introducing snippets — GitBook AI takes unstructured information from those integrations, extracts the important parts, then creates a snippet — a structured page in your docs that’s easy to read and digest. 💡 Maintain your docs with content insights — Insights now help you identify pages in your knowledge base with contradictory information, or duplicated content. So you can find outdated pages and quickly fix them at scale. ✨ A completely new UI design — We’ve redesigned our entire UI to match our new brand. It’s cleaner, faster, and more modern 💅 These are the headlines, but over the past few weeks we’ve also made a ton of QOL improvements in the app. From better performance, to improved comments, real-time collaboration and more. But all this is just the start. We have a lot of big plans for what comes next. We hope you’ll join us for the ride! For now, I'll just say thanks so much for your support today 🙏 we’d love to hear your feedback, so please drop questions and thoughts below! The team will be hear all day. Enjoy! Sara, Samy, and the whole team at GitBook

@sara_tandowsky1 I was checking the new pages out yesterday, and looks like a giant leap forward!! Just a quick question regarding the slack bot thread, that extracts data to create docs... At the moment we utilize other messaging apps to do this, but the page indexing can take a few minutes to 60 minutes etc, will that be the same via the slack bot also? Or would there be a possibility to 'in the future' to bypass page indexing. As we find the GitBook Lens AI WAY!! much better than just using GPT models.. And to be able to extract doc data and instantly use it in a conversational AI format would be amazing.

@sara_tandowsky1 @flochat Indexation of snippets captured from Slack or VS Code should be much faster to be indexed in AI search (a few seconds max). You can basically type "@gitbook save" in Slack, and then ask a question about it right away. We are working on improvements to index page content faster in AI search :)

@sara_tandowsky1 @samypesse Congratulations on your launch! Looks impressive! Wishing you luck for future projects. Followed you on Twitter :)

@sara_tandowsky1 When it comes to the Content Insights is the data a rolling category, or does it all just tally up forever? For instance, when it comes to page ratings, I really want to know what the ratings on a particular page look like from the date it was updated, rather than know the rating from the entire timeframe the page has existed.
Samy Pessé
@sara_tandowsky1 @victor_goossens, For now, it's not time-based (it shows all the ratings since the page has existed), but it's something we'll improve!

Congrats folks 👏 Great launch!

Do you still require / promote Gitbook on the documentation site even after they've paid for the product? That was a show stopper for us.

@dennispilarinos we have something coming soon for this and more customization options but in the meantime we can remove this for your account if you send us a message. Feel free to email me directly sara@gitbook.com and we’ll get you set up.

@sara_tandowsky1 Thanks - appreciate it. When we tried Gitbook a few months ago, the documentation was unclear on the removal of the banner. We escalated through support, and, at the time were told that removal of the banner wasn't possible - even for and annual / pre-paid plan. We cancelled our subscription and built our own docs site. This new release and your comment inspires some confidence to re-evaluate in the future. Thank you again and congrats.

Congrats all, looks great!

Congrats on the launch! Does this work with self-managed instances of Gitlab?

We love Gitbook, but it also has some web accessibility shortcomings. We developed a guide for our company to make our Gitbooks as accessible as possible and also made it publicly available here: https://accessibility.goa2jtech.... Congrats on the launch! We're hoping that there will be accessibility improvements in the future.

So excited about this milestone! This is huge first step towards making documentation completely effortless 💆‍♀️ Turning "can someone document this?" into a simple "GitBook save" is a game-changer ✨ It's already become our go-to for documenting any process or answer to a technical question at GitBook.
Suganthan Mohanadasan
Absolutely love Gitbook. Best documentation tool out there. Just one negative: they never let you hide the branding logo from the page. Defeats the purpose of white labelling in my opinion.
Rodrigo Castro
So happy to see this launched! Especially excited to share the Slack bot experience that has been a lifesaver. It has been helping us communicate faster in situations that require it, while also taking all the knowledge from that to our internal documentation for future use. With AI-powered search, this makes things so much easier to find as well 💙
