As a product person, I’ve always been intrigued by digital experiences that generate a physical outcome in the real world – and this Gift Tokens app is a perfect example. At a high level, the app provides people with an authentic opportunity to recognize those individuals in their lives that mean something to them, or deserve some credit. It’s a new way to say ‘thanks’ like you mean it, or a quick and easy chance to let someone know that they’re on your mind. For instance, if I’m out of the office on vacation and my co-workers are picking up a lot of slack, I can shoot them a gift token as a ‘thank you’ via e-mail or text from the Gift Tokens app. A gift token is essentially a digital gift-card, but it’s much more specific (and less expensive). Instead of sending someone a $10 gift card to Chipotle, I can just send them a gift token redeemable for one, delicious burrito. Or a cocktail from the bar at the Cheesecake Factory; better yet – a slice of cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. With a number of different retailers and restaurants already accessible within the app, there are a ton of ways you can recognize someone that’s important to you. We’ve even heard that the Gift Tokens app is a great way to break the ice after a few days of Tinder wooing (send him / her a cocktail at your favorite date spot and, apparently, they always say yes!). The Gift Tokens app is available on iOS and Android, and is compatible with Apple Pay for quick and easy buying / sending. Of course, we’re at V1 with this launch, but would love your feedback!
