Slash — A productivity machine that forces you to do tasks 1-by-1

Featured

Slash is a new type of to do app that actually helps you get things done VS just make lists. Add your tasks, hit 'Start' to enter hyper focus mode, and never leave flow-state. Level up with Pomodoros, Eisenhower Matrix sorting, time-based tasks + more.

Nicely designed! I love that it's on Mac. But... does it just stick there in the front? Would be a bit annoying if it blocks something...?
Primer
@nguy_n_hung_tu_n1 Am I missing something? How do you sign up? It's asking me for an invite code.
Matt Cyrankiewicz
@nguy_n_hung_tu_n1 you can drag the Focus Bar around or switch to hide it and show status in menubar @mickc79 the invite code is optional :)
Primer
@nguy_n_hung_tu_n1 @bootl cool - feedback in that case; you should say it's optional. The input field for 'invite code' is identical in every way to email and password fields.
Jordan Lejuwaan
@nguy_n_hung_tu_n1 You can also disable the focus bar and just show your current task in the Mac menu bar to keep your screen clean, if you prefer
Matt Cyrankiewicz
@mickc79 fair point! We'll add this with next update, thanks for feedback!

Slash looks awesome, well done! I just tried it out and the UX though beautiful is confusing: * I added items to my list then started "slashing" and saw a timer at the bottom * I clicked on the timer to figure out what was going on / possibly turn off the animating timer which I find visually distracting * this marked the item as "done" when I clicked on it with no way of marking it as "not done" from there. If I click "edit tasks", that task is no longer in the list and I can't mark it as todo again * I found the "Done" tab with my task on it but when I clicked the left arrow which I imagined would move it back to the "todo" list, it was moved to another "later" list which I can't find I think you need a better tutorial during your onboarding flow 😅
Jordan Lejuwaan
@alxcnwy I see how that would be confusing! We'll work on a better onboarding tutorial. I really appreciate the feedback.

@alxcnwy @jlejuwaan I don't think an app this simple should really have an onboarding flow. It just needs a few tweaks to really improve the UX. I'm an ex-Google PM in NYC, so if you ever want to chat about this - I would love to help!
Jordan Lejuwaan
@robjbye ha, @bootl is going to love seeing you say this. I'm in NYC too, so I'd love to meet up and chat UI/UX.

We created Slash after realizing that todo list apps are hopelessly broken. They're great at making lists, but offer you no help in crossing them off. In fact, they often create even more stress when you're staring at a list 100 items longs. Slash is a task "do-er" that helps you CRUSH your list by focusing on one task at a time. Quickly enter your tasks, hit 'Start', and the window shrinks down to a small always-on-top window that shows your current task and how long you've been working on it. When you're done, hover over the task name and click 'Done'. Then you get a random "You're awesome" GIF, and the option to start the next task, or take a break. The idea is that you create your list once in the morning, and then never have to choose what to do next. It also bakes in a ton of other productivity tools like: - Pomodoros (20-30 minute work periods with 5 minute breaks) - Eisenhower Matrix (Tagging tasks as urgent/important for automatic prioritisation) - Timed Tasks (Type in 'Do _______ for 20 minutes' and the task will start with a 20 minute countdown) - Time Tracking (Check out the analytics dashboard to see what you spent the most time on, your most productive days + hours, etc) - Integrations with Trello, Asana, Todoist, etc. -- Coming soon! (Import your tasks from a list app, and get them done in Slash) Our mission is to help people get more done, and actually move closer to their dreams. We'd love your feedback to help us better the app and enable a world of smaller todo lists :)

@jlejuwaan Can you ping me when you guys release it on Windows? Thanks.
Kyle Conarro
Looks cool! Aside: looks like your "roadmap" link is broken (goes to taskslayer.nolt.io, which I assume is your old name?)
Matt Cyrankiewicz
@conarro Hi Nolt is a tool where you can add your suggestions, requests and track progress with some ongoing tasks! It's pretty high level though, we'll add more as we go - and please add your suggestions too ⚡️
Jordan Lejuwaan
@conarro fixed :)
Kyle Conarro
@bootl Yeah I'm familiar! It was just pointing to the wrong subdomain I think. Hope the launch went well!
Matt Cyrankiewicz
Hey all, excited to share Slash with you today. Drop any questions here, we'll be around throughout the day to answer! ⚡️
Julio
@bootl Hey 👋 I'm trying to create an account but it ask me an invite code. Could you give me one? 🙏
Matt Cyrankiewicz
@julionavr what is the error info you get? Slash is free and open once you download it so no need for the code on sign up (next version will state that it's optional ;)). Codes will be used for extra perks.
Tiffany Zhong
@julionavr @jeffbowen can't join - it says invite code is expired
Matt Cyrankiewicz
@julionavr @jeffbowen @tzhongg guys you do not need an invite code on sign up, it's optional - the UI will reflect this since the next update - simply register leaving the field empty :) Apologies for any confusion!
Primer
@julionavr @jeffbowen @tzhongg @bootl @venkatshukla I got that too severel times and then it worked... I didn't change anything. It just worked after about 7 or 8 attempts.

In the field that says "add a task and hit enter" nothing happens when I hit enter. This app is making me feel really stupid today.
Jordan Lejuwaan
@mickc79 Hmm that's not good! Did you end up getting it work? Maybe restart the app?
Anton.Bal
@jlejuwaan Just a suggestion, to add in the Google Play link as well to this product listing, I had to look for it on the site, just a small barrier to entry to Mac desktop users who use Android as their mobile OS. Looks like this fulfils one of my biggest issues with Notion and other task managers!
Jordan Lejuwaan
@amstb1 Hey Anton! Thanks for the suggestion. We thought about this and decided not to because people need to sign up via the Desktop app. The mobile apps are very simplified companion apps with much less functionality.
Wilco de Kreij
Love the idea, but it's still buggy at this point. Some issues I had so far: 1) Unable to create an account on the first 5 attempts (showed an error) 2) Not able to add more than 1 task (not fixed yet) 3) After a reboot and opening it up again, it's stuck on the loading screen for 2-3 minutes before it opens the app. This is on a 2015 iMac with 32GB Ram on the latest version of OS X Catalina. The fact that such a small app is 80MB to download gave a way a clue that it's not ready for public adoption yet, I'd say. I love the idea, though! So will check again later to see whether the issues have been resolved.
Jordan Lejuwaan
@emarky That's all fixed now :)
Wilco de Kreij
Love the idea, but it seems it's not quite finished yet. It's showing a "you're offline" error when signing up. After clicking 6-7 times it suddenly worked. Once I'm in, it's only possible to add 1 task. I like the idea though, so will check again in a few days once the bugs have been ironed out :)
Kevin Leyes
Dear ?makers, I joined Slash a while ago when you just launched the product here on the website. I found some bugs when I tried to redeem a promo code for a premium subscription you shared with me. I gave up because I couldn't make it work and never used the app, but I'd love to start doing it now since I see the features are really cool. We send each other some emails but I can't find them right now, my account is leyeskevin"@"gmail.com. Is there any way you could help with it? Thanks! 💙
Tomas Hertus
I must be doing something wrong or there is a bug. When I try to create a new task, I can type in the task name and when I hit Enter, nothing is happening. macOS Sierra 10.12.6
Jordan Lejuwaan
@tomashertus You're the second reporter of this issue, so it's not just you. Can you try restarting the app? If that doesn't work, a screencast video would be super helpful!
Dani Schenker🇨🇭
Hi @jlejuwaan I started using Slash a couple of weeks ago. I like it a lot! Well done! One request would be a smaller version of "the thing"... You know, the thing that shows what I am working on and for how long. Depending on my task its always in my way... Cheers!
Anthony Lee
Yet another todo app! I like this one though, simple and elegant. It would be nice if this works with Siri.
Matt Krandel
@jlejuwaan I've been a Slash user since day 1 (when you launched on PH). I upgraded to a new laptop and went to download Slash, but got PUT ON THE WAITLIST!!! Understand why you have this, given immense interest, but can you please send me a direct download link since I was an early supporter? Slash has become absolutely critical to keeping me on track in my workflow. Thanks!
Jordan Lejuwaan
@mattkrandel - The Product Hunt link allows you to skip the line and download ;)
Matt Krandel
@jlejuwaan Amazing :) ... One quick Q... is it not possible to change the size of the "Slashing" window (when working on 1 task)... On each of my laptops, the window is super small, vs in the product marketing images the window is much bigger (and can accommodate much more text.
Jordan Lejuwaan
@mattkrandel - Yeah that's been a common request. You can track that feature here: https://slash.nolt.io/81
Jeff Bowen
Pretty! Just completed my first Slash task — add Slash to ReferCodes. You can share your Slash invite code with your friends here: https://refer.codes/slash/
Matt Cyrankiewicz
@jeffbowen thanks for setting this up!
John Potess
Great product, love it so far. Also, was using it yesterday and everything was working great. After the update you pushed today though I'm unable to open the app, it just hangs on the load screen.
Jordan Lejuwaan
@jppotess This is fixed now!
Jijo Sunny
looks great! congrats on the launch guys will update after giving it a whirl today..
Jijo Sunny
@jlejuwaan i'm getting a "Hmm. It looks like you're offline." while trying to sign up
Ondrey Ro
@jlejuwaan @jijosunny @orellanaed @cellus_christie Had the same issue, but it actually worked when I used an invite code. Feel free to use mine: cIM-SZgy
Aliasgar Murtaza
@jijosunny I found the issue. Try signing up again with a different email address with a password without any special characters (mine was *). @jlejuwaan Looks like your passwords are not supposed to have special characters.

Hi! I cannot give it a try because: - There is an error on signup and when you try to signup again it says the email already exists - Not possible to login with the account created - I did reset my password but still no luck
Matt Krandel
@jlejuwaan Today we launched Shuffl TV on PH, yet couldn't help myself from checking out this app. Only issue for me is, when I hit enter after entering new task... nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong? Great work on UI!
Matt Cyrankiewicz
@jlejuwaan @mattkrandel Thank you! We're looking into it, it seems to happen only to some users. Should be fixed soon!
Xander Schultz
Love it so far. we all get lost in being busy while losing priority. This app is perfect at keeping you focused. It also does a great job rewarding you for accomplishments.
