What would be your advice to a newcomer to social media? And what would your posts look like?

Because I'm not casually posting on social media expect in productHunt, I have no clue about what's interesting to the audience. Like X, Instagram etc. So tell me what do you think about it.

Martin, a good rule of thumb for social media is to share content that adds value or sparks joy for your audience, whether that's insightful tips, behind-the-scenes peeks, or just relatable stories. Your posts should reflect your authentic interests or expertise, as genuine content tends to resonate most with followers.

Instagram it's good for employer branding in my opinion. At LinkedIn I'm just sharing insights from my workdays and projects. I'm not using X and TikTok at all. I think the key is to be authentic and just yourself, but I'm definitely not a pro in social media.

Hi Martin! If you're planning to launch on Product Hunt, it's suggested that you create a community on X. What I would recommend is for you to search for some influencers you like on each social media platform and try to learn from them. For me, John Rush is somebody that I admire and try to learn from. However, you should find your own voice and approach to social media. In my case, Reddit is just not for me; I get banned every time I post something 😆

My advice, Martin, would be to start by sharing your genuine interests and insights related to your field; authenticity resonates well on any platform. As for the posts, mix in engaging visuals with valuable content that invites conversation or offers a fresh perspective.

@cen_xu @jamin_nanthan Your advices in my opinion are with no doubt useful. I realized it's just hard to visualize or demonstrate that kind of content. E.g. how do you post code snippets as a developer without sharing too much info.

For newcomers to social media, my advice is to observe first, engage authentically, and gradually expand your network. Barrow Posts should be informative, engaging, and reflect your interests or expertise. Include visuals, ask questions, and interact with others to foster meaningful connections and build credibility.

In the last four months, I have been active on X, and even though I haven't gained much traction, I think I have understood some of the points that people repeat over and over. - Value: Would you follow yourself? Be honest about the value of what you're putting out there, if it has little value, why would anyone follow you? - Consistency: I started almost at the same time as a couple of other accounts in the same space, I saw their followers rise steadily, you know why? Regular and valuable content, almost every other day. How? That we need to figure out ourselves. - Engagement: Engaging is powerful, but the hard part at the beginning in finding where to engage. Follow top accounts within your niche or areas of interest, piggybacking on their posts and the discussions they generate. Your engagement should add value, not just be generic. - Patience: at the beginning, it will feel like talking to yourself. People just don't know you exist, and that is why you need to engage with others and make yourself visible. - Content Type: people say to stick to the content that better engagement gets, but that is something you can't do at the beginning because you have no followers to give you that feedback. Write down your content ideas and strategies, and later when you have a good following, revisit that list to try it out again.
