What's the etiquette on being featured on HackerNews?

I'm wondering if there's some sort of etiquette to how you should be featured on HN. I know you're not just supposed to post your link. I'm wondering in what context your product has to be mentioned to attract attention and spark discussion. Anyone who's been featured there care to share their learnings?

I’ve had maybe 2 posts go viral on ProductHunt ever - and I posted both of them. 😅 Both were “lessons learned” kind of posts, sharing a mistake and how it was resolved. I do wonder what people who have repeatedly gotten on the front page are doing differently.
