What's next after the cloud?

Now majority of the products are designed for the cloud and moving away from personal hosting or on-prem. What's the next step and the step after? According to me, we will go back on-prem with distributed architecture and running our small private networks connected to each other as a logical next step. But what happen next?

I'm a big fan of the Web3 network of networks vision. That said I think many people have no interest in self-hosting / running datacenters. Would you consider a network of networks where people are using lots of virtual private clouds a future step, or part of the same Web3 step? =)

@bogomep That's hard to say. There are still a ton of hard problems to solve for web3 and web3 is still in the early phase of the adoption curve.
