I myself dropped out after 2 months because I felt that the right subjects weren’t taught.
But I’d like to hear what other business owners have to say about the usefulness of university.
I still think that university is important. If you like what you study, if you feel yourself in the right place, then it's for sure worth it. Besides, it's not only about formal education. University can "teach" you a lot of other skills, like communication, problem-solving, time management and so on. And it's a place to meet people and make some connections. I decided to study because I see how beneficial it is for me, and I have never regretted my decision. Of course, not everything I like, sometimes I face some problems, but it's good after all.
I feel the same about this. I think universities are not adapting enough, and most information can be found for free on the internet. That doesn't apply to getting a doctor's degree, but for degrees like business or marketing, I think it's useless.
Definitely depends on your path - They certainly have their place for some disciplines, but general entrepreneurship, I don't feel like it is necessary
I've learned more from the internet than from my university. University still teaches you time management and how to handle stressful situations and deadlines. But it's not a necessity at all.
University is absolutely important, I say this as a self tought computer programmer with a successful 15 year career. I've realized traditional comp-sci is the *right* thing to teach. I had to learn it on my own. Constant, Logarithmic, ans Sequential time is the most valuable lesson you can learn, if your a decent programmer you may know it instinctually by another name, but no programmer is adequate without knowing it.
I am of the opinion that they are teaching the right things, and the industry is blinded by the wrong ones.
