I think the best computer software for desktop is Linux. It’s free, and you can customize it to your liking. There are 1000's of free apps you can download on Linux. It's safe, secure and free from viruses. You can run it from a usb drive, and install it on any computer. You can even configure it to work like windows.
I am a big fan of video editing and production software, so I would choose Final Cut Pro. I think it is the best video editing software. I can’t imagine how long it would take me to edit a video without Final Cut Pro. Not only that I can edit my videos with Final Cut Pro, but I can also edit music from my iTunes library. I can even add text and graphics to my video.
