Not my product, but I do run a flood alert service for the city I live in which tweets when various cycle paths are due to be underwater. This costs me about $5/month to run on a Digital Ocean droplet - and has about 300 subscribers who get value from it the 3/4 times a year the river starts flooding. I *think* that's going to be blocked unless I pay for verified - but honestly, the main problem is that there's a complete lack of decent comms from twitter - and I don't have the time to look around for a definitive answer; it's not clear from their developer portal what's going on. Finding ways to stop UGC seems like a weird strategy to me...

@matt_harbord I think they are trying to prevent automated UGC. But this move is surely weird.

Launching soon!
It wouldn't affect us directly, but the widespread usage of Twitter api might lead to indirect effects.

Any idea on how to sign up for the paid API? I couldn't find anything in the dev portal.

Does this also effect data analysis of tweets for research, 'cause that's almost the only thing Twitter is good for now
