Let's hear from you how you land your first ever job? And what was fun about it.
For me I was hired before my Uni graduation. You know those job fair at school and does the on-the-spot interview, that kind haha. That was way back 2006 when call centre business was still starting up in PH. But it was all cool and working graveyard shift for 4 years. Still connected with my ex-colleagues-became-friends till date :) Writing this feels very nostalgic..

Wow! Almost the same experience as yours, @rissy_miranda! It was back in 2003 when I had my OJT in one of the call centers in Clark, Pampanga. Our school partnered with the company to hire some students to work as call center agents so we got paid as normal employees during our OJT days. We were also given the option to continue our employment even after we've completed our OJT hours. I chose not to because I wanted to pursue a career in IT but I still ended up working in a call center as a Technical Support representative after a few months. lol
@tin_s oh wow!! OMG, small world, I am from PMP so I worked at CRK as well. The company name was CyberCity Teleservices.
It was super fun right?! I think especially for you as an OJT back then but paid as a regular employee. So cool. Thanks for sharing Tin :) xoxo
@rissy_miranda OMG! Small world nga! It's the same company! haha Not sure if I remember it right (it's been 2 decades!haha) but I think I was with the Infomercial account, we sell different stuff..hahaha
@tin_s Yeps! Got infomercial accounts there - wow! Really wow! Best part was the free food and fun culture too :)
@rissy_miranda Yes, free food! We also got to stay in the "dormitory" for FREE while we were in training..
My first ever job was back in Uni as well where we were supposed to be applying for admin assistant but I was hired as an english instructor! It was really fun because I got so spend my summer with lovely teens and got to be part of their journey to becoming better versions of themselves :)
One thing that helped me back then and still now are my connections. I had so many amazing opportunities thanks to them!
@zie_travelling_with_chiu_ oh wow! I think it really says something if even before getting a degree, we are all ready for the workforce already (hands down). Were you tutoring foreign teens to master english, or locals on their english subjects?
@rissy_miranda Hello!!! I was teaching local high school students that time. Funny thing was they were not aware that I was only a few yeards older than them and they did not realize.. not sure if that was good or bad though lol
My first real job out of college was as a business analyst for a domain parking company (remember those?). It was fun because it was a tech startup on the 44/45th floor of a downtown los angeles high rise, and I enjoyed going up the elevator in my flip flops, jeans, and t-shirt next to a bunch of stuffy suited up lawyers :)
@mattli this is real cool sharing. Do you get the looks from the suites guys when you get in the lift with em? 44/45th floor you get the cool view from up there, but going down the lift you could feel your ears very stuffy though..
@rissy_miranda haha i don't remember it was quite a long time ago, but dress code is still one of the appealing parts of working in tech for me
I don't even remember having that for college, that must've been really cool!
For me, my first official job would be at an art college. I heard so many gruesome stories from my older sister and brother with their long work experiences which made me look for a job that was near and convenient. I found one just 15 minutes away from us and worked in the admissions team for 3.5 years. This was 3 years after I graduated college, enrolled in a language class, and enrolled in a bible school for 2 years haha!
What's fun would be all the moments I shared with students when interviewing them and seeing them grow into individuals in school. I even got close to some of them which is why I'm updated with the tea with students lol
@ish_atbp can I guess that you are the youngest sibling? Your elder siblings must really had it at work hence, they were just protecting you. But hey, look at where you are at now, right! Something to celebrate and create more memories :)
@rissy_miranda haha yes! I am the youngest with quite the age gap which is why I have so many wisdom from them. And yes, definitely something to celebrate :D
I started working in 2007, a week after I graduated from college; I tried to apply for a BPO; I applied to this one company and just tried my luck. Luckily, I was hired on my first ever Job and the only company I used; the rest is history. hahaha
@juvela_paton_og woah! I can see close similarities to all of us ladies @tin_s @zie_travelling_with_chiu_. And it is true that sometimes we just need to take the brave step to apply, with a little bit of luck and prowess we can get anything we set our mind into. thanks for sharing Juvela :)
I landed my first job back in Dec 2004 - I was 19. I was roaming around Pasig City and just happened to hop on a taxi with the nicest driver ever. Due to traffic, we shared some stories together and he asked where I am headed. I said, no exact place yet since I am looking for a job. He said his daughter works in a call center in Antel Global (Ortigas) and he would love to let her meet me. He called his daughter, we spoke and she asked me to come see her. I was hired the same day :)
The best part - the driver and I talked long after I was hired, kind of like a daddy text mate until I lost my phone then and his number. Until now I am wondering how he is. It's been 18years. It would be super duper fun for us to cross paths again.

Busser at fancy restaurant - met a lot of cool people and my social skills definitely improved.

After completing my degree, I was invited to join the faculty of one of the biggest universities in the country. It wasn't fun. It's hell on Earth: bully senior teachers and a tyrant principal. Geez, I survived 1 year though.
@rimer_carlyle_espinosa oh dear :( but surely you learned a lot of lesson from that experience (for one is not to go back at the same uni to teach haha). Hope you are more in a better working place now :)
I was supposed to be a seafarer and was waiting for replies from the agency I applied to. One day, I was just walking in the streets of Makati and saw call center job openings. I decided to apply and got hired within the day. I thought it's better to be earning while waiting for an agency offer. However, I got promoted to TL after 2 months and decided to no longer sail a ship.
@allan_miraflor1 oh wow from sea to call centre. Thanks for sharing Allan. I think the perks is, you can always be with your loved ones. As compared to the first, where you will have to be away for at least half a year, right? Are you planning to pursue the seas in the future?
