As long as there is a system in place to prevent the bad from happening, it's probably going to bring a lot of good. This is perhaps one of those things that we won't know until we get there though

For me, one of the challenges is how we, as humans, can continue to compete with machines. Not all human beings have a deep understanding of AI, which means that not everyone can benefit from it. Instead, they may feel threatened by the rise of AI.

Self-aware AI could be very useful in taking us to the next stage of the technological age. Though if it decides humans are detrimental to the state of the planet, it may be a different story!
