How to start a podcast? 🎧
Hey podcasters,
what are your tips to start a podcast from scratch?
Recording, editing and publishing are the easier tasks, but how about getting interview guests and reach for the podcast?
And what about money, are you paying guests?
I guess most hosts don't, but some popular authors ask for an "engagement fee", that is why I am curious.

Nice guide! I've found using Twitter Spaces to be helpful for getting initial listeners and followers. Another tip is to be consistent with your publishing schedule so people know when to expect new episodes. Having a few episodes already published before promoting can also give potential listeners more to check out.

I wrote an interactive guide to starting a podcast.
It includes tips on marketing/promoting your show.
For guests, it's best to use your existing network (people you know through Twitter, Bluesky, LinkedIn, and folks you've met at events).
It's unusual for a guest to request payment. Celebrity guests like Scott Galloway will ask for a speaker's fee.

Is someone paying guests to appear on the podcast? Wow! I always thought the focus should be on interesting topics to discuss, with the caliber of the guest increasing in proportion to the podcast's audience size.
If you're interested, we have a couple of team members who would be willing to talk about their areas of expertise: HR tech and data science.

I’m not an expert on Podcast but I often listen Podcast. The podcasters I followed usually invite their friends to participate in discussions and talk about different interesting topics. I think you can try to interview your friends or people you’re familiar with to start a podcast. :)
Anchor.fm is a great free platform to get started with podcasting. They handle hosting, distribution, analytics, monetization - the works. For guests, definitely start by reaching out to folks you know in your network who might have relevant expertise or an interesting story to share. Most will be happy to come on without any fee, especially if you make it easy for them and have a decent sized audience. Good luck!
