Building a product roadmap is a critical task for any product manager, but it can be challenging to ensure that it aligns with your company’s vision and goals. What is your opinion about this one?
is a shared source of truth that outlines the vision, direction, priorities, and progress of a product over time
also if u have any roadmap where u can share it will help a lot
Adapted from a recent YouTube video by Roman Pichler:
Four Qualities of Effective Product Roadmaps
1) Goal-Oriented
o Increasing customers, engagement, futureproofing/removing tech debt etc.
o Different to traditional – mapping features on a timeline
o Determine the benefits instead of providing features
2) Connected
o Focused and concise backlog
3) Shared (Aligned)
o Run collaborative road-mapping workshops
o Developed alongside stakeholders and team members
4) Adaptive (Reviewed and updated over time)
How the roadmap can tie in to strategy, vision, goals etc. (also from Roman):
Product Strategy & Vision
1) Vision – What’s the products purpose, the positive change it should bring about?
2) Strategy – What is your approach to realise the vision and make the product successful?
o Needs
o Market
o Stand-out features
o Business goals
3) Roadmap – How will you implement the strategy in the coming months? Which product goals should be achieved?
o Product goals
o Dates or timeframes
o Selected coarse-grained features
o Metrics
4) Backlog – What UX design and features are required to achieve the next product goal?
o Epics, user stories
o Workflow diagrams
o Sketches, mock-ups
o NRFs (non-functional requirements)
Hope this helps!
