How do we identify and target our ideal customer?

6
1. Conduct market research and analyze demographic data to identify common characteristics of your target audience. 2. Develop buyer personas to better understand the needs, wants, and pain points of your ideal customer. 3. Use data and analytics to track and understand customer behavior and preferences. 4. Utilize social media listening and monitoring tools to identify potential customers and understand their needs. 5. Engage with customers through surveys, focus groups, and customer interviews to gather valuable insights and feedback. Anything you can add?

Great points, Natia! Finally someone giving in their own insights rather than asking ChatGPT for the answer and following it :D

- Do competitor research to understand their strategies and identify areas where you can differentiate your products or services. - Do A/B testing to experiment with different marketing strategies to determine which are most effective for your target audience.

For SaaS, i would say giving free trials to see who signs up and engages with the platform based on their job roles.

Definitely get in touch with the sales team and marketing to get their insights about their thoughts on ICP. I would also rReview your data and see what segment performs the most (if you have some segmentation already). One of the things I would do to start is to outline your assumptions of who do you think is your ideal customer and why. At the end, it'll be nice to revisit them and see what you learned :)

if you are first starting out, then this is almost reverse order and would lead many down the wrong path. Identify companies in numerous different industries that don't have in-house skills that your solution can provide. Get to contact them, and give a ballpark of what you offer, i.e design services for high-quality 3D or explainer videos. Ideally, you won't be quite too niche. Ask them questions in and around your service, ideally signing them up in a prelaunch early commitment, you want to learn as much from them as possible. If you start to get customers from there then you know you can start to segment based on that. This way you will be able to refine your value prop, understand who the most likely to convert targets are, and eventually to build personas a customer journey maps that work.
